"It's like a job. You have goals. You see results" -Yuriy, Experience Corps Member

Experience Corps Baltimore City In Baltimore City, Greater Homewood Community Corporation, in partnership with the Johns Hopkins University Center on Aging and Health, has hosted Experience Corps since 1998. This innovative, high-impact program utilizes the time, skills, and experience of adults 55 years and older to benefit not only their own health and well-being but also to help improve educational outcomes for elementary school-aged children. The program serves students in grades K-3.

Each extensively-trained Experience Corps member commits a minimum of 15 hours per week for the entire school year. A team of 15-20 adults is placed in each school. The members work at the direction of the teacher to support students in the areas of reading, writing, language and math. The particular service performed by members varies but might also include library help, behavioral support, health promotion, enrichment activities, and improving attendance and parent involvement.

The mission of the Greater Homewood Community Corporation is to strengthen neighborhoods through improving education, supporting youth development, and advancing economic development and community revitalization.

Experience Corps members from Baltimore recently participated in the Day of Action, a nation-wide celebration of service and community engagement. Click here to learn more!
