particulates, health, quality, smoke, pollution, ...
NOAA's National Weather Service National Air Quality Forecast System (AQFS) Graphic Forecast displays (http://www.weather.gov/aq) are web based presentations of gridded forecast guidance originating from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). Ozone and smoke data are displayed for a domain covering contiguous United States, Alaska and Hawaii. Ozone is shown as 1-hour and 8-hour average concentrations(in parts per billion or ppb), and smoke concentration in 1-hour averages, updated twice daily. Fire locations are provided by the NOAA's Satellite and Information Service Hazard Mapping System. Additional information on air quailty can be found under EPA's AIRNow site. For further information, please visit NOAA's Air Resources Laboratory web site (http://www.arl.noaa.gov).

State Snapshots
Health and Nutrition
state health care quality, ...
The State Snapshots provide graphical representations of State-specific health care quality information, including strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. The goal is to help State officials and their public- and private-sector partners better understand health care quality and disparities in their State. State-level information used to create the State Snapshots is based on data collected for the National Healthcare Quality Report (NHQR). The State Snapshots include summary measures of quality of care and States' performances relative to all States, the region, and best performing States by overall health care quality, types of care (preventive, acute, and chronic), settings of care (hospitals, ambulatory care, nursing home, and home health), and clinical conditions (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, maternal and child health, and respiratory diseases). Special focus areas on diabetes, asthma, Healthy People 2010, clinical preventive services, disparities, payer, and variation over time are also featured. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has released the State Snapshots each year in conjunction with the 2004 NHQR through the 2009 NHQR.

A MONAHRQ reporting website is searchable and user friendly. It shows local healthcare information in tables, bar charts, and maps. A MONAHRQ reporting website can show: -- hospital quality measures (AHRQ Quality Indicators, CMS Hospital Compare inpatient measures, and HCAHPS patient survey measures) -- hospital utilization and costs -- regional utilization and costs (default is by county) -- regional preventable hospitalizations and potential cost savings (default is by county). As input, MONAHRQ requires all or any of these: -- hospital administrative data -- precalculated CMS Hospital Compare measure results -- HCAHPS patient survey results For links to live public reporting websites generated using MONAHRQ, please visit http://www.monahrq.ahrq.gov/msites.shtml.

USGS Energy Geochemistry Database
Natural Resources
Rock-Eval pyrolysis, Geochemistry, Coal Quality, ...
Since January of 1989, the U.S Geological Survey (USGS) Energy Resources Program Geochemistry Laboratory Data Base has grown to contain the analytical data for over 200,000 samples worldwide. The Energy Geochemistry Data Base (EGDB) contains chemical analysis data for crude oil, natural gas, coal, water, and rock samples analyzed by the USGS Energy Resources Team's Geochemistry Laboratory, or by contracted-service laboratories. Data was also obtained from the literature and unpublished public domain sources. The sample types included are primarily rock, coal, oil, and gas. This information is used by the USGS for worldwide energy resource assessments and is periodically released to the public. Analytical data within the EGDB includes Rock-Eval pyrolysis, organic mass spectrometry, vitrinite reflectance, gas chromatography, stable carbon isotopes, inductively coupled plasma, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, mercury analysis and a number of other related geochemistry analyses that, in some instances, predate the EGDB. Throughout the years the Energy Program scientists have utilized these data to not only develop an understanding of the physical and geochemical processes responsible for hydrocarbon formation. but also as a tool to assess the oil and gas potential for sedimentary basins in both national and international settings.

US Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, ASPIRE and LinKS
National Security and Veterans Affairs
sick, CHF, VAMC, VHA, aspire, outcome measures, ...
The Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the VA's Under Secretary for Health are committed to transparency - giving Americans the facts. The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) releases the quality goals and measured performance of VA health care in order to ensure public accountability and to spur constant improvements in health care delivery. The success of this approach is reflected in our receipt of the Annual Leadership Award from the American College of Medical Quality. Much of the data in LinKS and ASPIRE are simply not measured in other health systems - VA is raising the bar. When available, VA uses outside benchmarks but often sets VA standards or goals at a higher level. VA scores hospitals more than 30% different from the goal as underperforming or red and those only 10% different from the goal are shown in green in ASPIRE. But a red site within the VA might be a good performer compared to outside counterparts. The scoring system is designed to move VA forward. ASPIRE is not about finding fault but about helping VA to target opportunities for improving performance ASPIRE is a dashboard that documents quality and safety goals for all VA Hospitals. This data shows strengths and opportunities for improvement at the national, regional and local hospital level. Aspire data supports the VA's mission of a continuous health care improvement program to provide the best possible care to Veterans. The database lists many "measures" and our goal for each measure. The data shows "where we are" in comparison to where we want to be. A simple example would be for blood pressure management. The goal for all veterans age 18-85 with high blood pressure is to have blood pressure readings less than 140/90. This measure shows the percentage of Veterans meeting that blood pressure goal. The data in this dashboard will be updated on a regular basis. VA's Linking Information Knowledge and Systems (LinKS) is a dashboard that documents outcome measures for acute care, ICU, outpatient, safety and annual measures. This data shows strengths and opportunities for improvement at the national, regional and local hospital levels. LinKS supports the VA mission to provide the best possible care to the Veterans. The dashboard shows what we are measuring and our result. A simple example would be for smoking. We measure the percentage of veterans that smoke and what we've done to help them stop smoking such as smoking cessation classes, counseling or medication to help them quit. The data will be updated on a regular basis.
