CDC WONDER: Mortality - Multiple Cause of Death
Births, Deaths, Marriages, and Divorces
Population, Infant, Deaths, Disease, State, Cause, ...
The Mortality - Multiple Cause of Death data on CDC WONDER are county-level national mortality and population data spanning the years 1999-2006. These data are available in two separate data sets: one data set for years 1999-2004 with 3 race groups, and another data set for years 2005-2006 with 4 race groups and 3 Hispanic origin categories. Data are based on death certificates for U.S. residents. Each death certificate contains a single underlying cause of death, up to twenty additional multiple causes, and demographic data. The number of deaths, crude death rates, age-adjusted death rates, standard errors and 95% confidence intervals for death rates can be obtained by place of residence (total U.S., state, and county), age group (including infants), race, Hispanic ethnicity (years 2005-2006 only), gender, year of death, and cause-of-death (4-digit ICD-10 code or group of codes). The data are produced by the National Center for Health Statistics.

Summer Food Service Participation, Meals, and Costs Data
Health and Nutrition
Lunch, School, service, State, Programs, Children, ...
During the school year, many children receive free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch through the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs. What happens when school lets out? Hunger is one of the most severe roadblocks to the learning process. Lack of nutrition during the summer months may set up a cycle for poor performance once school begins again. Hunger also may make children more prone to illness and other health issues. The Summer Food Service Program is designed to fill that nutrition gap and make sure children can get the nutritious meals they need. This data set contains information on summer food service participation, meals served and cash payments provided by state. (format: html, xls)

CDC WONDER: Population - Bridged-Race July 1st Estimates
Population
Ethnicity, Population, State, County, Race, Sex, ...
The Population - Bridged-Race July 1st Estimates online databases report bridged-race population estimates of the July 1st resident population of the United States, based on Census 2000 counts, for use in calculating vital rates. These estimates result from "bridging" the 31 race categories used in Census 2000, as specified in the 1997 Office of Management and Budget (OMB) standards for the collection of data on race and ethnicity, to the four race categories specified under the 1977 standards (Asian or Pacific Islander, Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, White). Many data systems, such as vital statistics, are continuing to use the 1977 OMB standards during the transition to full implementation of the 1997 OMB standards. Postcensal estimates are available for year 2000 - 2009; intercensal estimates are available for the years 1990-1999. Obtain population counts by Year, State, County, Race (4-categories), Ethnicity, Sex and Age (1-year or 5-year groups). The data are released by the National Center for Health Statistics.

Gender of Prisoners Admitted to State and Federal Institutions in the United States, 1926-1987
Law Enforcement, Courts, and Prisons
correctional facilities, state, inmates, ...
This data collection includes tabulations of annual adult admissions to federal and state correctional institutions by gender for the years 1926 through 1987. The two data files have identical structures: Part 1 includes information on male admissions, and Part 2 includes information on female admissions. The 3,348 cases in each part include one case for each of the 62 years of the collection for each of the following 54 categories: the 50 states, the District of Columbia, federal institutional totals, state cumulative totals, and United States totals (the sum of the federal and state cumulative totals). The figures were drawn from a voluntary reporting program in which each state, the District of Columbia, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons reported summary and detailed statistics, as part of the National Prisoner Statistics reporting series. Each file also includes individual state and United States general population figures.

State Snapshots
Health and Nutrition
state health care quality, ...
The State Snapshots provide graphical representations of State-specific health care quality information, including strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. The goal is to help State officials and their public- and private-sector partners better understand health care quality and disparities in their State. State-level information used to create the State Snapshots is based on data collected for the National Healthcare Quality Report (NHQR). The State Snapshots include summary measures of quality of care and States' performances relative to all States, the region, and best performing States by overall health care quality, types of care (preventive, acute, and chronic), settings of care (hospitals, ambulatory care, nursing home, and home health), and clinical conditions (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, maternal and child health, and respiratory diseases). Special focus areas on diabetes, asthma, Healthy People 2010, clinical preventive services, disparities, payer, and variation over time are also featured. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has released the State Snapshots each year in conjunction with the 2004 NHQR through the 2009 NHQR.

GOES-9, GOES-10, CLASS, Southern Hemisphere, ...
The GOES Imager is a five-channel (one visible, four infrared) imaging radiometer designed to sense radiant and solar reflected energy from sampled areas of the earth. GVAR is the data transmission format used to broadcast environmental data measured by the independent GOES Imager and Sounder instruments, beginning with GOES-8 launched in 1994. Data distribution formats available are raw, AREA, NetCDF, GIF, and JPEG. Purpose: To monitor the atmosphere for severe weather development such as tornadoes, flash floods, hailstorms, and hurricanes. When these conditions develop, the GOES satellites can track storms on a minute-to-minute basis.
