Paper Publishes Gun Owner Addresses; Gun Owner/Blogger Returns Favor

A few days ago New York’s News Journal published an interactive map showing names and addresses of all people who are registered to own a handgun in two counties. Turnabout being fair play and all, a gun owner and blogger decided to publish the names and home addresses of staff members at the newspaper:

Christopher Fountain, who is also a gun owner, spoke to CNN’s “Starting Point with Soledad O’Brien” on Thursday to explain his reasoning behind the posting. “I felt they were using this to harass gun owners,” Fountain said of the newspaper’s staff. “So I harassed them back.”

Fountain posted the name, home address and phone numbers of the Journal News’ publisher, editor, visual editor and several other staff members. Fountain told CNN’s “Early Start” that he was offended by the newspaper’s actions and “wondered how they would like it if their addresses were published.”

The map published by the Journal News on Saturday allows readers to zoom in on red dots that indicate which residents in the two New York counties are licensed to own pistols or revolvers. It had prompted more than 2,300 comments as of Thursday.

My feeling about the publishing of home addresses of gun owners is that it’s a treasure trove of information for criminals, because it lets them know which houses to avoid.

The paper gave some kind of “public interest” BS excuse for publishing the map, but the “red dot” graphic makes it look like a sex offender chart, which is the feel they were probably going for. This is the whole problem with having to publicly “register” for a constitutional right: you can then be easily targeted for all manner of attempted intimidation and insinuation.

By the way, the paper says it’s going to be releasing even more information about which homes in the area are protected by guns. The local criminal element sure must appreciate the News Journal’s efforts, and now they have their home addresses so they can thank them personally.

Remember When the Left Used to Freak Out About News Like This?

We’ll have to wait for a Republican to get elected president for the left to once again go apoplectic and throw around accusations of fascism over things like this:

By a vote of 73 to 23, the US Senate just voted for the warrantless surveillance of American citizens until 2017.

The vote, set to affirm to eradicate the FAA Sunsets Extension Act of 2012, means we’ll be living with Bush-era spy laws for another half decade. In 2007, the Senate voted to grant blanket immunity to companies like AT&T, which conspired with the NSA to monitor American digital conversations without government oversight after 9/11. Today’s vote continues that immunity, and provides further carte blanche for the American intelligence-gathering apparatus. Phone calls, texts, and emails are all fair game—and a judge doesn’t have to give the OK, so long as it’s in the name of counterterrorism. Which is a very easy guise.

Obama is expected to sign it.

The One campaigned in 2008 under a platform of getting rid of Bush’s policies in this area (and almost every other area for that matter), but in fact warrantless wiretaps have skyrocketed under Obama.

Add Rahm Emanuel to the ‘No Armed Guards in Schools’ Double Standard List

After the NRA’s reaction to all the finger pointing after the Newtown school shooting, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the following about Wayne LaPierre’s suggestion for more armed security in schools:

It’s outrageous and unsettling that the NRA would choose to address gun violence not by taking assault weapons off our streets, but by adding more guns to our schools… That is not the right answer for our society, our schools and most importantly our children.

What Rahm meant to say is that it’s not the right choice for your kids — but his kids? They, like David Gregory’s kids, deserve such protection:

Breitbart News has confirmed that The University of Chicago Laboratory School, where Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel sends his children, is protected by an armed, on-duty police officer.

University of Chicago Police public information personnel informed Breitbart News that there is at least one armed officer on duty a the school everyday and has been for “several years.”

What it always boils down to is that elite liberals lives are worth protecting, and everybody else should just have to take their chances. We’ve seen hypocrisy and double standards from Emanuel in other areas as well.

And I’m sure Dianne Feinstein’s new proposed gun grab will really deter the next wannabe mass murderer. Another law to stop people who don’t obey laws? Great idea!

After Titcomb (still can’t say that without chuckling) was arrested last year, it was impossible to find a story that reported if the arresting officer was male or female.

Not that there would be anything wrong with that.

Obama Tells Michigan Governor He is Displeased with ‘Right to Work’

It’s hardly a surprise that Obama-the-Spiteful is incapable of letting states legislate without putting in his two cents (which were worth five cents when he took office, by the way) worth of federal intimidation:

Lots of folks scoffed in town when reports surfaced that Democrats had petitioned the President of the United States to insert himself into the unseemly debate over Right to Work. Some asked out loud, doesn’t POTUS have more important things to do than lobby Gov. Rick Snyder on that?

But lobby the president did.

During an exclusive one-hour sit down on WKAR-Public TV, the governor confirms that he and President Barack Obama shared a few minutes in private and the president looked the governor in the eye and said, “He wasn’t pleased with Right to Work,” Mr. Snyder reveals for the first time.

And the governor’s response?

Short, sweet and to the point. “I said thank you for sharing that with me.”

And that was it?

“Pretty much, yeah,” the GOP governor glibly recalls.

Too bad Snyder didn’t reply, “Yeah, well I wasn’t pleased when Obamacare passed either, but we can’t always get what we want.”

I’ll be spending the day with the family, and hope you all get a chance to do the same. The kids have already torn through the gifts, and in a while my wife and I will be trying to make the perfect prime rib. Fingers crossed. But if it doesn’t work out, I understand McDonalds is open today.

Will Obamacare Cover Treatment For Heavy Metal Addiction?

I couldn’t believe this story wasn’t from the United States, but I’m sure it’ll arrive soon — if it hasn’t already.

A man in Sweden is reportedly getting state disability benefits due to a crippling addiction to heavy metal:

According to the Global Post, 42-year-old Roger Tullgren said he consulted three psychologists to testify his addiction to the Devil’s Rock, which led to him attending over 300 concerts last year, leaving him seemingly unable to hold down a job.

“I have been trying for 10 years to get this classified as a handicap,” he told Swedish newspaper The Local. “I spoke to three psychologists and they finally agreed that I needed this to avoid being discriminated against.”

According to the report, he now has a part-time job as a dishwasher at a restaurant in Hassleholm, which will be supplemented by disability benefits. Tullgren’s new boss has agreed to let him rock out to Slayer as loud as he wants while scrubbing dishes, so long as it doesn’t disturb guests. He has even agreed to grant Tullgren time off to go to gigs.

I’ve heard there’s treatment available for this addiction in the Yngwie Malmsteen wing of the Betty Fjord clinic in Goteborg, but that won’t happen as long as the Swedish government keeps enabling him.

Sometimes people are diagnosed with the opposite problem — a life completely devoid of heavy metal — and the disorder is usually discovered after a doctor notices the patient’s blood work shows an Iron Maiden deficiency. Sorry…

Celebs in an Industry That Rakes in Billions Glorifying Violence Demands a Plan From Congress to Rein in ‘Gun Culture’

These cause du jour celeb montage videos usually drip with so much sanctimony that I nearly get nauseous watching them, but this one is different — I actually did get nauseous watching it:

Yes, Hollywood — a beacon for America when it comes to moral and ethical values both on and off screen — wants us to demand Congress do something about gun violence.

Ok… here’s a proposal: Demand that Hollywood lead by example, or else we’ll make it illegal for Hollywood to in any way to glorify violence in their films and TV shows. There’s plenty of it. Hollywood wants to lecture about responsibility but never has the courage to look in the mirror. But in reality, Hollywood, like Gloria Swanson, is not ready for their closeup.

And was that Jamie Foxx I saw demanding a plan to address gun violence? The same guy who recently joked about all the white people he got to kill in his latest movie? And Will Ferrell? Please. I saw Beyonce in there too… maybe the plan she demands from government should include somebody talking to her husband about the lyrics that he puts into kids’ heads. Sarah Silverman speaking up for “houses of faith”? Hahaha!

This bunch is beyond parody.

Michael Moore: People Own Guns Because of Racist Fears or Something

What Moore thinks is the reason black people own guns is anybody’s guess:

And I was fascinated in that subject when making ‘Bowling for Columbine,’ of how fear is used to the point where everybody feels like they’ve got to have a gun in the house. Now, not every house has a gun but we’ve got over a quarter-billion guns in people’s homes. And they’re mostly in the suburbs and rural areas where there is virtually no crime and no murder. So why is that? What are they really afraid of? What do they think of — who’s going to break into the house? Do they think it’s little freckled-face Jimmy down the street? I don’t think so. I don’t think that’s who they’re afraid of. And it cuts down to the heart of our race problem that we still haven’t resolved. And I thought it would be interesting to take a look at that in the movie.

I’d venture to assume that most break-ins and thefts in rural and suburban America are perpetrated by white criminals. Also, rural crime is on the rise.

How can you still protect yourself without being a racist? Make your personal security carry the guns — charges of racism and paranoia averted:

Moore’s one of those “my life’s worth protecting and yours isn’t” lefties like Dianne Feinstein and select Hollywood gun hypocrites.

And by the way, I don’t believe for one second that Michael Moore doesn’t have a gun in his home(s) for personal protection — there would certainly be plenty of places to hide it.
