In a recent feature article on MSNBC.com, NASF Executive Director Jay Farrell says IYOF is more about responsible management than outdoor recreation. "Whether it's federal, state, private or even just urban trees, the nation couldn't do without forests. [They're] critical infrastructure that everyone appreciates even if they don't understand all the benefits."

The letter, sent to members of Interior Appropriations, acknowledged the nation's forest infrastructure as critical in providing numerous public benefits and stressed the importance of programs that assist private forest owners with their efforts to conserve and sustain their land.
