The U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of State will recognize and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the office of ART in Embassies (AIE) through a collaborative photography exhibition, “Serving Abroad…Through Their Eyes”.

The Defense Department experienced many changes in 2011, from the transition in top leadership to the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” and from the withdrawal of troops from Iraq to gains in Afghanistan and the demise of Osama bin Laden. U.S. troops also provided NATO support following a resolution to create a no-fly zone over Libya before Moammar Gadhafi’s death.
On the home front, DOD leaders marked the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, remembering the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives that day and honoring survivors and military service members. The newly released DoDI 5040.02 Visual Information (VI) revision consolidates five DOD instructions on VI policy. 5040.02 denotes the Defense Imagery Management Operations Center (DIMOC) as the DoD VI Records Center. It also authorizes the Defense Caption Style Guide and the Joint Visual information Concept of Operations (VI CONOPS) as web based documents.
