  • Just wrapped up a great tour of some of the lab facilities here at Children's Mercy Hospital. While we at EPA are focused on preventing asthma attacks by reducing the amount of harmful pollution in the air we breathe, doctors here are doing important research into innovative asthma treatments. Looking forward to a roundtable with parents, doctors and other medical professionals where we can discuss this further.
      • Emma Peel maybe better if you monitor the radiation, quick with the Corexit, stop with the chemtrailing, fracking and all the other CORPorate Sell out toxic pollution... instead your feeding the Pharma with more chemicals to give the kids to counteract the Pollution you are allowing these companies to use...what a joke.

  • I'm headed to Children's Mercy Hospital in KC, MO to talk to doctors, nurses and medical professionals about how air quality impacts our kids' health. May is Asthma Awareness Month and we want to make sure that people across the country understand how emissions of mercury and other toxics in the air can aggravate respiratory illnesses like asthma, especially in children.

  • Our recently-proposed mercury & air toxics standards focus on 1 primary mission - the protection of people's health. Tomorrow I'll be in Kansas City, MO to talk about the health of some of our country's most vulnerable citizens. I'll talk w/doctors at Children's Mercy Hospital about the health impacts of air pollution on children & discuss EPA's efforts to lower harmful emissions w/local organizations & residents.

  • Yet another example of how clean energy innovation leads to new jobs and economic growth. Last week, the President visited an Indiana company that is creating jobs by making transmissions for hybrid vehicles, working to lower our dependence on oil. As efforts like this increase, we'll see cleaner air, a stronger economy and continued job growth.

Speaking at a hybrid vehicle transmission plant in Indiana, the President explains how these kinds of industries will not only help get gas prices down in the long term, they'll provide the next generation of jobs.
  • Dirty-burning cookstoves endanger billions of lives across the globe every day. The clean cookstoves initiative, a joint government effort headed by Sec. Hillary Clinton, has a new voice bringing awareness to this environmental justice issue. As a global ambassador, actress Julia Roberts will encourage support for organizations that are helping to deliver safer cooking appliances to families around the world.

For nearly half of the world's population, cooking at home is a deeply dangerous act. In fact, it poses one of the most serious health risks in the developing world, and it's a major threat to the environment.
  • Today I'm in Mobile, AL for the latest official meeting of the Gulf Ecosystem Restoration Task Force. We just received an update from Gov. Robert Bentley on how federal, state and local entities are working together to help the state recover from recent devastating storms. We're also continuing work on the Gulf's ongoing restoration & helping local residents to be even more closely involved in the task force's work.

  • Today I joined interfaith leaders to talk about the need for clean air, water and land to protect our health and our shared environment. We're expanding the conversation on environmentalism and making sure these issues are talked about - and acted on - in places where people come together. I was honored to receive on behalf of the EPA the Creation Care award from the National Religious Coalition on Creation Care.

  • I was proud to join Florida Ave. Baptist Church yesterday as they became the 1st African-American church in Washington, DC to adopt solar energy for electrical power. To help foster more of these kinds of projects, EPA is joining Pres. Obama's Faith-based & Neighborhood Partnerships Initiative, which will play an instrumental role in expanding the conversation on environmentalism and reaching out to new communities.

It becomes the first African American church in the District to rely on renewable solar energy for electrical power.
  • Today we recognize teachers for their sacrifices & commitment to educating our nation's youth. As a scientist, I was proud to see the president recognize Teacher of the Year Michelle Shearer, a chemistry teacher reaching out to kids to help them engage in & succeed in scientific fields. This National Teacher Appreciation Day I hope we'll all take a moment to remember & thank educators who made an impact on our lives.

  • I spent the morning at a solar panel ribbon cutting ceremony with congregants of the Florida Avenue Baptist Church in Washington. They are a great example of how local organizations can make small changes to lead our country toward a clean energy future - and a demonstration of the types of relationships and projects we hope to build with EPA's recently announced Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships Initiative.

I have traveled from port saint joe,Fi. to Grand Isle,La. in the last month and toured various beaches along the way. You can t honestly tell me that dispersants aren't being sprayed. The sealife is dying and washing up on our shores. In so...me places along the coast the sealife is left to rot on open beaches therefore contaminating the beach even more. I have seen kids playing next to dead animals. It needs to change. I am posting this so I KNOW you are aware and maybe the death and dispersants can be stopped.See More

I agree with Shaw. I believe in federal disaster assistance to any area of the country. But some areas consistantly vote for candidates who demand lower taxes, reduced budgets and call for the federal government to keep its hands off of the...ir States Rights. If that be the concensus of a state, perhaps they should pause before asking for federal aid. Also, it would be informative to hear how many affected people lived in substandard housing, homes without basements and mobile homes. It's no secret that poverty is widespread in the deep south and that state governments are not responsive to their needs.See More
