Delicious pizza is not a given. You have to know the places to go. Pizza by Marco is one of those places and with today's Deal of the Day you pay only $10.00 for $20.00 worth of food.

Pizza by Marco is family owned and operated and is open an impressive 365 days a year. They have locations in Dallas, Addison, Carrollton, Plano, and the Woodlands in Houston. (Their Addison location (next to Kobe Steaks) serves beer, and wine, and offers and expanded pasta menu.)

Their family roots reach back to Palermo, Sicily before they immigrated to the US in the early 1900s. In the early 1940s, they settled in Dallas and opened the Carroll Lounge, where they began serving the family's secret pizza recipe. The pizza became so popular, that they converted the lounge into a pizzeria in 1956, becoming the first true "pizzeria" in the city. In the early 1960s, as the city expanded, they decided to move to what was then the farthest point North of Dallas, Preston Road and Royal Lane. Construction on LBJ had just begun.

Still today, Pizza by Marco continues to use the family recipe that's been handed down for generations. Marco's son Frank is said to be the only person who knows the 13 secret spices that go into the sauce and dough, which he makes fresh daily. They offer lots of toppings to go with that famous recipe, including those of the vegan soy variety, including Vegan Cheese, Vegan Ground Beef, Vegan Pepperoni, and Vegan Sausage.

Plus they have a variety of specialty pizzas that include the Augustus with an Olive Oil Glaze, Fresh Chopped Garlic, Fresh Spinach, Sun Dried Tomatoes, and Provolone and Feta Cheeses; the Caligula with Alfredo sauce, Fresh Spinach, Grilled Chicken, and Fresh Roasted Garlic; and the Full Moon with Alfredo Sauce and Mozzarella, Provolone, Parmesan, and Ricotta Cheeses. And they offer the classics like BBQ Chicken, Greek, Hawaiian, Margarita, Meathead, Milano Chicken Alfredo, Romulus, House Special, and Veggie pizzas.

Bread Strips, Bruschetta, and Calzones round out their menu along with salads (including Caesar, feta, Italian, and pecan) and pasta (although not at the Beltline location yet), including Baked Ziti, Penne Alfredo, Penne Chicken Alfredo, Penne with Red Sauce, and Spaghetti with Meatballs. They even offer Cannoli and Greek Cheesecake for dessert.

The Dallas Morning News and Pegasus News awarded them "Best Pizza in Dallas for 2010" and they were also a D Magazine D Best finalist this year. No other pizza in Texas has won more awards, thirty-five since 1956.
