Revolt in the Desert

Libya's ragtag rebels on the long road to Tripoli.

MARCH 7, 2011

A Libyan rebel fighter shouts from his anti-aircraft machine gun position as he sees a government fighter jet flying over a checkpoint on the outskirts of Ras Lanuf on March 6. Ras Lanuf, the site of an important oil refinery some 400 miles east of Tripoli, was captured by rebels over the weekend but has since come under sustained assault from pro-government forces. Repeated airstrikes by fighter planes and helicopters have frustrated the rebels' progress toward Tripoli in recent days.

He's saying, in Arabic, of course: "I'm a stupid traitor. I'm armed to my teeth. I do not represent the best interests of this country. I do not have full support from my fellow citizens and I couldn't careless about it. If the Western powers do not pitch in, Qaddafi will burn my sorry hairy ass. Please, help me!!!"

Shocking

How people feel that it is our business at all, what if Arab nations got involved in our politics, military intervention due to economic concerns is quite beyond me.

They're very brave. It reminds me of the American Revolution- only the British didn't have tanks and aircraft, etc.

The world will be much better off without Gaddafi.
