U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team 91105 to hold charity event

ALAMEDA, Calif. – Crewmembers from Maritime Safety and Security Team 91105 are scheduled to hold a new-toy drive in front of the Toy’s “R” Us location in Pinole, Calif., Dec. 4-5, 11-12 and 18-19, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the donation location next to the Coast Guard unit’s 25-foot response boat display.

“We had such a great turn out last year for the "Flood the Boat" toy drive, and we raised an estimated $10,000 in toys for the children at the hospital,” said Petty Officer 3^rd Class Cory McDermott, a maritime enforcement specialist from MSST 91105 and the toy-drive's organizer. “Everyone really stepped up to make the toy drive a success. Our goal this year is to exceed the amount of toys we donated last year," he said. "Events like this are such a great way for us to give back to the community and help those in need during the holiday season.”

All donated toys will be given to the Oakland Children’s hospital on Dec. 20, 2010.
