Social work
is an integral part of our public health system in Mississippi. Social workers with the Mississippi State Department of Health
work in a variety of positions throughout the state: county health departments, community agencies, schools and nursing homes.

Services: Social workers contribute to:
- Education — regarding health and human services issues.
- Advocacy — on the client's behalf with systems within and outside of the Department of Health.
- Consultation — with other professional staff.
- Community organization — to address services and social problems affecting your health.
- Psychosocial counseling — to overcome personal and relationship barriers.
- Case management — to coordinate services and care for clients.
