About

ASME's Center for Research and Technology Development (CRTD) facilitates the development and application of technology in areas of interest to ASME members and to the engineering profession by encouraging partnering between industry, government, and academia.

The mission of the CRTD is to effectively plan and manage the collaborative research activities of ASME to meet the needs of the mechanical engineering profession as defined by the ASME members. CRTD provides ASME members with a vehicle to:

  • identify present, new and unfulfilled research and technological needs;
  • conduct peer reviews and program reviews of relevant programs for government agencies and industrial organizations;
  • identify emerging and future technical areas including evolving multidisciplinary areas, where ASME should be a major player
  • perform assessments of technological change that affects mechanical engineering;
  • collaborate with other ASME Sectors; and
  • effectively communicate the results of ASME's research program.

CRTD is governed by the Board on Research and Technology Development (BRTD) which consists of individuals with a broad engineering perspective and recognized expertise in one or more of the primary technical disciplines.
