Mobile classifieds are similar to web classifieds but are accessible with your mobile phone/device. Mobile classifieds were designed to provide rich information for people on-the-go.
The unique thing about mobile classifieds is that you can initiate your search for classifieds by sending a text message, or by browsing the mobile web on your cell phone.
"Smartphone" is a term used to describe the most sophisticated mobile devices on the market and usually include email, calendar, address book and other features commonly found on "PDA" (Personal Digital Assistant). Smartphones and other PDAs are not required to use our mobile classified service.
Virtually all mobile devices today accept text messaging, though you may want to check with your carrier on the cost. Typically, carriers offer text packages for a nominal monthly fee.
To view and browse classifieds on the mobile web, you will need to have a mobile web capable cell phone. Charges and packages vary, so it is best to check with your carrier.
Certain carriers restrict accessing the mobile web through a text messaging link. If your carrier does restrict direct-linking, you will be instructed to access the mobile web by entering Chron2Go.com directly into you phones browser to obtain your information.
The best way to tell is to contact your carrier. Often carriers will invite you to register if you try to access the mobile web and you are not yet a subscriber.
If you don't have internet access, you may need to contact your carrier to have this service enabled. Dial 611 to contact your carrier at no additional charge.
Sending a text message varies by handset, and by carrier. Manufacturers tend to be somewhat consistent in text messaging procedures. Please see specific manufacturer's data here .
Yes. Chron mobile classifieds has an "email this listing" feature. Simply click on "email this listing" and enter your email address. The listings will be emailed to your inbox. This is a great way to view the listings at a later time.
Mobile search is a unique way to sort through hundreds of mobile classifieds to find exactly what you are interested in. Chron.com offers 3 categories to choose from:
Merchandise
Real Estate
Autos
You can search each category by sending in a text message to 24766 (CHRON) using the SEARCH command. For example:
search autos honda Accord automatic (or 2005, etc.)
Search homes galleria pool
Search stuff pets labrador
By texting the search string above to 24766, you will receive a text message indicating how many matches were found. The text message will include a mobile web link taking you to the search result where you can view full ad details, pictures (if any) and other features designed to make the most of your ad viewing experience.
A listing ID or Web ID is a string of characters that identifies a particular classified ad on both chron.com and the chron2go.com mobile system. Listing or Web IDs are used with the VIEW command in text messaging. For example:
View 123456
Additionally, you can use the View command with MLS #'s in requesting realestate for sale or VIN #'s when looking for a specific car.
Be certain that you are spelling the command and category correctly. Also, be certain that your command has spaces in between words.
Sometimes, carrier network volume causes delays. If you are sure that you are texting properly, you may just need to wait for the response. This is rare, however.
If you continue to have difficulty receiving a text message you may always go directly to the mobile.chron.com mobile web site on your phone's mobile browser.
This will vary for different handset manufacturers and carriers. Most Smartphone/PDA devices will allow you to highlight the link as if it were a web browser. Instructions on popular manufacturers can be found here .
You can always access the complete system at mobile.chron.com. You can search and enter listing/web IDs as you would with text commands. You can also browse by category.
There are no charges to users by Chron.com to search or view classifeids. However, standard data charges from your carrier apply and you may want to check with your carrier for standard text and mobile web access fees (and packages).
There may be no applicable results for your search. We suggest expanding your search requirements by reducing the number of search parameters in your inbound text message.
My phone does not seem to be compatible.
Be sure that you have text messaging and Mobile Web enabled on your phone. If all fails, your phone might not support the service. Send a detailed email to mobile@chron.com and we will try to help.
Handset information
