Elizabeth Peratrovich Day

Elizabeth Peratrovich Day is celebrated in Alaska on February 16. A celebration is planned in Juneau on Monday at the Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall from 3-5 p.m. Peratrovich was an important Alaska civil rights activist, working on behalf of equality for Alaska native peoples. She was the single driving force behind the passage of the state's Anti-Discrimination Act of 1945, the first anti-discrimination law in the United States. Full Story »

Governor Parnell Orders Flags Lowered

February 11, 2010, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell has ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Friday in honor and memory of former Representative Robert Walker Stratton, Jr. Stratton died at Providence Valdez Medical Center. He was 94. Full Story »

Gov to Lead March Against Domestic Violence

February 9, 2010, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell today announced a new effort to raise awareness of the epidemic of domestic violence and sexual assault in Alaska. In addition to the governor’s comprehensive domestic violence initiative that is currently being considered by the Legislature, a statewide march has been scheduled for March 31. Full Story »
