Douglas-Roberts Hurts Neck

Chris Douglas-Roberts strained his neck in the third quarter of tonight’s 93-89 preseason loss to the Knicks.

He said his head went back and it caused “a little ligament tear.” But x-rays were negative and he’s listed as day-to-day.

The Small Forward

Chris Douglas-Roberts will get his fifth preseason start tonight. The only other Nets who can say that are Brook Lopez and Yi Jianlian. Let me read into this is a little, Douglas-Roberts will be the starting small forward opening night.

“I don’t know,” Douglas-Roberts said. “We’ll see. We’ll have to see opening night.”

Hayes Hobbled

Rod Thorn had an idea that something was wrong with Jarvis Hayes. The valuable sixth man hasn’t looked like the Hayes we all saw last year.

“Jarvis hasn’t been himself,” Thorn said last night. “One of his legs is bothering him. We need his out-court shooting. I’m always concerned when guys are injured.”

The Infirmary

The Nets had nearly as many guys on the sideline watching today as they did playing.

Not really, but by the time we walked in a potential starting five was on the side: Devin Harris, Keyon Dooling, Tony Battie, Yi Jianlian and Jarvis Hayes. That five may not win many games, but you get the point.

Devin Update

Devin Harris doesn't know what play it happened. All he knows is he felt tightness and it bothered him enough to get it looked at and the decision was to sit out the rest of the night.

If you're keeping track - and I know you are - that's a sore right ankle, a sore left ankle and strained right groin for the Nets' lone All-Star and 20-point scorer.

More Injuries

Devin Harris is out for the second half because of a strained right groin. The Nets also will be without Yi Jianlian in the second half due to a strained right shoulder.

Here We Go

Not only are you going to see Devin Harris, Courtney Lee and Brook Lopez together for the first time tonight if you come to Newark or watch on YES, you are going to see the Nets’ speed, quick game and athleticism on full display. At least that’s what Lee said this morning.

Giving a little insight into the offense, Lee said the Nets want to get the ball past midcourt in 2.5 seconds. They do have the athletes to get quick scores – that is if they come up with a steal or a stop.

Getting Healthy

The Nets’ starting backcourt should be together for the first time in tomorrow’s preseason game at the Prudential Center.

Devin Harris, who missed Sunday’s game in Boston with a sore ankle, is expected to play against the Celtics tomorrow. Courtney Lee, who returned Sunday after missing the first two games with foot issues, will play as well.

Young Guys Star in Nets' Loss

Rookie Terrence Williams and Chris Douglas-Roberts were the starting wings and were impressive in the Nets’ 93-92 loss Friday night over the Sixers.

Several guys stood out, including Eduardo Najera in his first Nets’ game since Jan. 31, but Williams and Douglas-Roberts played aggressively and showed that they may not only deserve to be on the floor but that they deserve to play plenty.
