Less than a week after a teenager was mauled by three pit bulls, city officials say they're re-examining pet ordinances. Two of the three dogs that mauled Kiara Lynn were euthanized Tuesday. Meanwhile, an animal rights group is calling for restrictions on how long a dog may be chained outdoors.

Last month, two children 6 and 2 years old survived a head-on crash on Casimer Pulaski Drive near Route 43 with minor injuries. Waukegan police credited their survival to the fact that the mother, who was injured in the crash that occurred when the other vehicle crossed the center line, had properly secured her children in child safety seats.




By day, Brian Chesman is a senior at Grayslake Central High and pretty much looks the part. But when the school days ends, he's the "reining" equestrian youth all-around champion -- a title he earned recently by competing at the American Buckskin Registry Association's World Show.

Antioch High's boys golf team beat Vernon Hills 176-188 in a nine-hole match at Spring Valley Golf Club on Tuesday. Eric Holst of Antioch (2-0 in the NSC Prairie) was medalist with a 40. Tom Koch (43), Aaron Hansen (46) and Kyle Sonnenburg (47) also scored for Antioch.
