CHICAGO – April 22, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today commended the seven Chicago-region
transportation agencies for convening a first-of-its-kind Earth Day XL Transportation Summit to improve coordination among the region’s transportation leaders.

Illinois Students Receive Educational Benefit from Generous Donation of 10,000 Trees
SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Transportation Secretary Gary Hannig today announced that the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has joined forces with Living Lands and Waters to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day by placing 10,000 Oak Tree seedlings throughout the state of Illinois. Springfield School District 186 was one of many school districts statewide to receive a portion (800) of the oak tree seedlings, which were donated to the Illinois Department of Transportation by Living Lands and Waters.

New Distracted Driving Laws and Goals to Help Save Lives on Illinois Highways
Springfield - As the 2010 highway construction season gets underway, the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois Tollway, Illinois State Police, Local Laborers Union, and other Illinois Strategic Highway Safety Plan (ISHSP) partners announced today the participation in National Work Zone Awareness Week, April 19-23. This is part of an ongoing effort to reduce traffic related fatalities and serious injuries on Illinois roadways.
