Only in it's second year, North by 35 Music Conferette is poised to fill Denton's downtown music venues with thousands of listeners today through Sunday. The festival's free Saturday show spills out onto the North Texas Fairgrounds, including the Flaming Lips and a much anticipated performance by Denton's Midlake. Chris Rella, Director of Research and Development for Picarro Inc, demonstrates a mobile gas analyzer system which is mounted in a van and can detect methane and hydrogen sulfide levels in the air and map the readings in real time, while the van is driving at normal speeds. Rella and a team of environmentalists and health experts have been driving around Denton and Tarrant counties for several days collecting methane and hydrogen sulfide readings around Barnett Shale natural gas production areas.
