Boys basketball: New face, same place

In his first season at the school, Ponder head coach Jude Stanley has led the Lions back to the Class 2A state tournament, where they will attempt to win a third consecutive state championship this weekend in Austin.

PONDER -- During Ponder’s state tournament appearances in 2008 and 2009, Jude Stanley sat in the bleachers of the Erwin Center and watched with awe as the Lions captured back-to-back state titles under coach Doug Boxell. At the time, Stanley was the head coach at Sanger and never imagined he would be making the trip to Austin this year for a different reason. No doubt he is still a fan of Ponder, but this year he will be on the hardwood instead of in the seats, because Stanley is now the Lions’ head coach.
