University Park Preschool Association kicks off its 10th Annual Spring Market
The Spring Market is set for this March 31st.
University Park The University Park Preschool Association (UPPA) kicked off its tenth Annual Spring Market with an evening hosted by Tootsies in Preston Center on Thursday, February 25. The Spring Market, hosted by Wells Fargo, is set for March 31, 2010 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at University Park Elementary School.
At the kick-off celebration sponsored by Tootsies and Little Gym, more than 150 guests sipped champagne, sampled hors d’oeuvres from Parigi and nibbled on desserts from Oh Sugar! while enjoying a fashion show featuring the latest spring trends.
Salon Madrid created multiple hairstyles for the models, while a team from Laura Mercier provided make-up.
“Tootsies pulled off a magical show, and our volunteer model-moms and teachers were having such a good time on the runway. Their excitement was contagious!” explained event co-chairs Diane Swartzendruber and Jodi Perdue. “We couldn’t have imagined a better way to kick-off the Spring Market.”
Iced Gerber daisy cookies, the Association’s signature logo, were given to guests as a thank you and final reminder of the upcoming Spring Market.
The Spring Market was started in 2000 to compensate for the financial shortfall in the University Park Elementary School budget caused by the Texas “Robin Hood” funding law, resulting in 70 percent of local school tax dollars redistributed to other school districts in Texas. To date, the Spring Market has raised approximately $250,000 with proceeds used towards teacher salaries, technology upgrades, district-wide programs and campus improvements for University Park Elementary School.
The University Park Preschool Association or UPPA, with 210 members, is a networking group for families who live in the University Park Elementary school district and have children who will eventually attend University Park Elementary School. For both parents and children, the group provides social and educational activities throughout the neighborhood.
