Pegasus News launches mobile edition, iPhone application

We've been teasing it for a week or so now and it's finally here:
Our new mobile edition is a time-sensitive, location aware version of our most-used information: Events, restaurants, drink specials, wi-fi locations and garage sales.
You can base all of your searches off your current (or a soon-to-be-current) location as you move around your DFW home. We will soon (like hopefully later today) have a free application available for iPhone users inside the iTunes store. That app will automatically determine your location and feed it into the mobile edition. Regular users can also log in on the mobile site and use saved addresses from your profiles too.
The mobile edition is confirmed to work on any Webkit-enabled mobile browser, which means the iPhone and the Nokia N60 series at a minimum. On other mobile browsers, mileage may vary. Let us know your experience and we'll hopefully expand the list soon.
Jeremy and David made a demo video, which you can check out below. We'll follow up with more instructions and explanation soon -- in the meantime, we're all off to the Apple stores to hawk our mobile wares to the folks waiting in line for the 3G iphone.

i got an email from a guy who was waiting in line at the apple store in plano. he got in line at 8 a.m. and finally walked out of the store with his phone at 6:30 p.m. ... 10.5 hours.

Also, he's doing it wrong. Even though I <a href="http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2008/jul/11/d-fw-iphone-delfreaksdel-fans-make-standing-line-o/#c29737">got hosed</a>, still made it into work at 9. Went and put an order in at nearest AT&T retailer during my lunch hour.

Did a recent trip back here with a brief stop in Chicago. During the break I thought, I could go for a bowl of pho when I get back to DFW, but I don't know anything about the geography of towns like this Arrrlungton. So, I propose you put your lackeys to creating a 'route based' recommendation list as in:
1) I am in or propose to start at A 2) I propose to finish at B 3) Along the way I would like to eat / acquire C without having to look at every single listing in places completely out of the way.
aaaaaand goooooo!
Post script: I'd also actually use a search option for 'late night kitchen'

On #1, I agree with you that this would be useful and we've talked about doing it. The balance we've tried to strike is between simplicity of the interface and super-duper features like that that would likely require a lot of typing (which is death to usage of the app).
The interim help is that we show what direction a place is from your current location.
On the P.S., it's already there. All you have to do is either search "now" late night or set the time to late night. The search only shows places open at that specific time.

Perhaps it could go carsdotcom style, but instead of scrolling for 'Aston Martin' then 'DB9,' you could have sequential options like "Dallas" - "Love Field" ending "Dallas" - "Fair Park" for "Indian."
As for part 2, sure, I have used the time limiter. However, as an example, if I were to search for 11 pm I could get both Beckley Brewhouse and Ten Sports Grill. Both will be open, but only one is going to have an open kitchen. Revising this would require some major hyperlocaling, I realize.

DC, we do currently distinguish between business and kitchen hours. If you come across a restaurant that we're showing in the search results whose kitchen is closed according to the "when" value you set, that's either an error in our data or a bug in our code. In either case, reporting the specific instance is always much appreciated.

Well, we were in East Kessler last night around 11PM. I fired up the fone, the PN app, restaurant, selected 'now' and searched. I ended up with a laundry list of places open but that weren't serving food at that time with Beckley Brewhouse as the closest example.
