Updated 7:53 PM CST, Tue, Mar 9, 2010
A Texas state trooper was shot Tuesday afternoon at another off-duty trooper's Italy home.
Trooper Clint Schumacher was off-duty when he was shot at a home in the 600 block of Rhonda Street belonging to another trooper. The Texas Department of Public Safety said the preliminary investigation indicates that the trooper who owns the home was not involved in the shooting.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are not yet known. While initial reports indicated the trooper was working an off-duty job, authorities later said the trooper was not working at the time of the shooting in the 600 block of Rhonda Street.
Schumacher was first taken to a Waxahachie hospital and then was transported to Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, where he was in stable condition.
DPS spokeswoman Lisa Block said the Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting. She said DPS will not release any additional information on the incident on Tuesday.
