TWA issues strong support for Proposition 11

The Texas Wildlife Association strongly supports the passage of Proposition 11 onProtect Your Property the November 3 ballot, and it is pleased to have a leading position in a new political action committee organized to support the constitutional amendment to protect private property owners against the abuses of eminent domain.

“Proposition 11 is a positive step to secure the private property rights of all Texans against the abuses of eminent domain," said TWA President Tina Y. Buford.  "It may be the last measure on the ballot, but to our association and its members, it’s the most critical.  Texans must be protected from the capricious use of eminent domain by governments for private enrichment.”

The new political action committee features Texas Commissioner of Agriculture Todd Staples as Treasurer and TWA President Buford as a Co-Treasurer.

A statewide news release announcing the effort in support of Proposition 11 is available.

"Reining In Eminent Domain," an article by TWA Vice President Emeritus David K. Langford, also provides excellent information on the importance of the eminent domain issue to private property owners.

TWA reaffirms groundwater as a vested property right

The Texas Wildlife Association has reaffirmed the ownership of groundwater by landowners as a vested real property right and has proclaimed its support for the local regulatory approach to groundwater management that recognizes groundwater as a property right.

The policy statement approved by the TWA Executive Committee on September 9 provides the organization the foundation to pursue legislative and regulatory solutions to the important issue of groundwater as a property right, an issue that has been raised in the courts by some groundwater districts that have challenged this vested right.

TWA will work with Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and other associations and groups that share this philosophy to pursue this policy goal.
