Cowboys have yet to jump in free agent pool, but few have

4:57 PM Mon, Mar 08, 2010 |  |
David Moore/Reporter    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

There seems to be a lot of consternation locally that the Cowboys have yet to sign a free agent. If you can stop wringing your hands long enough, ask yourself this? How many teams have signed a player in the first three days of free agency? That would be 10. Less than a third of the teams in the NFL have signed a free agent who wasn't on their roster to end the 2009 season....

Jerry Jones, Cowboys watching free agency unfold

Todd Archer/Reporter    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

This is a big week for Jerry Jones and Cowboys Stadium with the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey fight there this weekend. On Monday, Jones attended a Clottey workout and was asked about the Cowboys' inactivity in free agency so far. "Impatient is not the word and what we're doing, we're pleased with what we have in place with the Cowboys," the owner and GM told reporters at the workout. "But if you look at our past...

Market shrinking on possible nose tackle targets

4:29 PM Mon, Mar 08, 2010 |  |
Todd Archer/Reporter    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

Finding a nose tackle is not an easy thing, which is why Pittsburgh and New England paid top dollar to keep Casey Hampton and Vince Wilfork recently. Finding a backup nose tackle or somebody that could allow the Cowboys the possibility to move Jay Ratliff to defensive end is difficult, too. I'm not sure moving Ratliff to end is the smartest move because what makes him special on the nose might not make him as...

Cowlishaw: Jerry Jones has to be itching to buy in an uncapped year

3:23 PM Mon, Mar 08, 2010 |  |
Todd Davis/Editor    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

This from SportsDay's Tim Cowlishaw on his blog: Can you imagine the NFL finally getting to an uncapped year, free spending for all (almost), and Jerry Jones and the Redskins' Danny Snyder sitting on the sidelines watching? I realize that the Cowboys, by finally winning a playoff game, are limited in what they can spend. The top eight finishers in the playoffs couldn't get into the Julius Peppers derby won by the Bears, not that...

Martellus Bennett bemoans lack of opportunity in 2009

2:13 PM Mon, Mar 08, 2010 |  |
Todd Archer/Reporter    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

Martellus Bennett -- Marty B., Jupiter's Crunch, whatever you want to call him -- was part of a feature with CBS 11's Steve Dennis on Sunday. Thanks to DCFanatic for pointing it out. You can check the video above, but he has some interesting things to say on his lack of productivity in 2009. He had just 15 catches for 159 yards after missing two games with a concussion. It was hardly the season...

Cowboys best/worst all-time draft picks: Quarterback

1:49 PM Mon, Mar 08, 2010 |  |
Todd Archer/Reporter    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

Best Troy Aikman, UCLA 1989, First round (No.1 overall) Since we only go back to 1967 in our selection process, this is the easiest pick. Had we used the entire franchise history, then getting Roger Staubach in the 10th round of the 1964 draft as a "future" player, Staubach would have topped the list. Aikman holds or is tied for 47 passing records, including yards (32,942) and touchdowns (165) but Aikman wasn't judged on stats....

Jimmy Kimmel critical of Tony Romo's ears in handsome club sketch

10:47 AM Mon, Mar 08, 2010 |  |
Todd Davis/Editor    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

Is Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo handsome or not handsome? Jimmy Kimmel, in a desperate attempt to remain in the Handsome Men's Club with Rob Lowe, Matthew McConaughey and other members, questioned Romo's looks in a sketch on Kimmel's post-Oscar show Sunday night....

Cowboys Hall of Fame still evolving

9:43 AM Mon, Mar 08, 2010 |  |
Todd Archer/Reporter    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

Our Jeff Mosier had a story in Sunday's paper about how the Cowboys will look to tweak some things inside Cowboys Stadium as the $1.15 billion venue enters its second year. Interestingly, the team's Hall of Fame will not be ready this year, which had been the plan, but Executive Vice President Charlotte Anderson had an interesting thought on the tours and the use of videos. It sounds like some things you would see in...

St. Louis safety Oshiomogho Atogwe might be worth a look

9:15 AM Mon, Mar 08, 2010 |  |
Todd Archer/Reporter    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

We all think safety is one of the Cowboys' biggest needs this off-season. They can fill their need in the draft or in free agency and they might be forced to look in free agency if some team comes after Gerald Sensabaugh. Over the weekend his agent said three or four teams have expressed interest but visits haven't been scheduled yet. The Cowboys put the second-round tender on Sensabaugh, who started 15 games last year....

Mock drafts can't agree on Dallas Cowboys' first-round pick

11:50 PM Sun, Mar 07, 2010 |  |
Mark Francescutti/Sports Editor    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

Getty Images Maryland's Bruce Campbell was impressive at the recent Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. The NFL draft is April 22-24, but it's never too early to start thinking what the Cowboys might be looking for in the first round. Dallas owns the No. 27 pick. Dallas Morning News writer Todd Archer says the Cowboys' three needs are offensive line, safety and wide receiver. Hopefully, Jerry Jones and Co. have learned not to draft receivers...

Cowboys safety Gerald Sensabaugh drawing interest

4:44 PM Sat, Mar 06, 2010 |  |
Todd Archer/Reporter    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

No visits have been set up but Gerald Sensabaugh has received interest from three or four teams, according to his agent, Kevin Conner. The Cowboys put the second-round tender on the restricted free agent safety, which would pay him $1.815 million in 2010. If the Cowboys chose not to match an offer, they would receive a second-round pick as compensation. On the eve of free agency, Conner said Sensabaugh's wish was to sign a long-term...

Round 2, Emmitt Smith vs. Daniel Snyder

1:30 PM Sat, Mar 06, 2010 |  |
Gerry Fraley/Reporter    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

Here's hoping Washington owner Daniel Snyder makes it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August when a former Redskins offensive lineman, Russ Grimm, is inducted. Another member of the HOF class apparently does not hold Snyder in high regard. In an interview with SLAM magazine, former Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith took a volley of shots at Snyder. It started when Smith was asked which team he most enjoyed beating. His answer:...

Fraley: Why Cowboys should draft Tim Tebow

10:19 AM Sat, Mar 06, 2010 |  |
Mark Francescutti/Sports Editor    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

Dallas Morning News sports writer Gerry Fraley answered your Cowboys and Rangers questions this week. Some highlights: Should the Cowboys draft Tim Tebow if he is still there at the bottom of the second round: "Yes. Again, I'm in the minority here, but Tebow has the ``it'' factor. He's a tremendous athlete, as shown in the combine, and is a winner. I realize that is hard to quantify, but just look at his collegiate career....
