Hamilton Bulldogs defenseman Frederic St. Denis has a talent for hiding in plain sight. While he's easy to miss in stature and statistics, St. Denis is impossible to overlook with his burgeoning responsibility on the ice. "He's kind of our hidden gem. He's the man," Bulldogs coach Guy Boucher puts it. During the regular season, that meant becoming a versatile and quick study on a defense whose 182 goals allowed were the fewest in the AHL.
Tyler Ennis came to Buffalo as an injury replacement and wound up being irreplaceable. It was a bit of a shock, though it shouldn't have been. The kid with the baby face and maturing skills has a history of surprising people. He looked flustered during the first four games of his pro career, yet he rebounded to be named this season's AHL Rookie of the Year. Then he got to Buffalo and his story really became a page turner.
