Dallas-area housing stimulus effort slow to spend $25 million
North Texas received more than $25 million in federal stimulus funds last fall to move homeless people into apartments and prevent others from losing their homes because of the tough economy. But so far, only a fraction of the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program money – about $2 million – has been spent, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which oversees the program.

Frisco girl's stroke at age 3 spurs parents to launch awareness campaign
Dawson Quiroz pranced around the mound of bottle caps and glitter in her kitchen before scrambling onto the counter in her princess dress. She paused to peer at the half-made fundraiser necklaces – the most tangible reminder of the past year. The Frisco 4-year-old suffered a stroke a year ago, leaving her family questioning both the cause and the possibility of recurrence.
