Blotter: Armed robbers make off with marijuana, cash

12:43 AM CST on Sunday, March 7, 2010

By Candace Carlisle / Staff Writer

Occupants of a residence in the 1000 block of Collins Street told police that their door was kicked open Friday evening and three men bound them, threatened them at gunpoint and knifepoint and then robbed them.

The occupants were not injured in the home invasion.

The items stolen included an unknown amount of marijuana, cash, cellphones, keys and laptop computers, according to a police report.

The occupants were bound with duct tape and were held in a bedroom closet as the suspects ransacked the home for about 30 minutes, the report stated.

After the suspects collected the items, they fled on foot from the home, according to the report.

The first suspect was allegedly brandishing a silver and black semiautomatic handgun, according to witnesses. He was described as a black male in his early 20s, with a muscular build, short hair and beard stubble. The suspect also had a noticeable gap between his front teeth, the report stated.

Witnesses described the second suspect as possibly being a Hispanic male. He had dark facial hair and the other suspects called him Raul, according to the report.

That suspect was injured when he kicked in the door and had a small cut on his right arm, the report stated.

Witnesses did not see the third suspect and were unable to give a full description to police, according to the report.

The man’s neighbors told police they heard loud banging Saturday morning and, after investigating, they found a tall, thin man with reddish-brown hair and a full beard and moustache who had kicked the front door open, the report stated.

Witnesses said the man seemed to be intoxicated and that he said he was supposed to be there.
