Final: Pinkston 75, Red Oak 66: The Vikings prevail by staying calm in the fourth quarter. Tony Mitchell may have had the quietest 25-point, 10-rebound, 5-assist game in the world tonight. All eyes were on Davoun Hunter, as he finished with 24 points and five rebounds. Hunter was impressive tonight, as was Ollie Jackson, who had 15 points and six boards. Gaylon Edwards had 17 points and six rebounds for Red Oak before leaving the...

Final: Cy-Fair defeats Cedar Hill 54-50

4:52 PM Fri, Mar 05, 2010 |  |
Mark Dent/Reporter    E-mail  |  News tips

Postgame wrap: Final say - Cedar Hill had its opportunities. In the fourth quarter, Cy-Fair continued missing free throws and star player Chiney Ogwumike scored only two points, obviously timid because of her foul trouble. But in the end, the Longhorns couldn't convert. Overall, this was still a solid season for them. They defeated archrival MacArthur twice and Duncanville once. At the beginning of the year, coach Andrea Robinson said the team's main goal was...

10:36 AM Fri, Mar 05, 2010 |  |
Kyle Whitfield/HS GameTime Editor    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

Here are a few question and answers from Wednesday's live basketball chat with HS GameTime's Matt Wixon and Damon L. Sayles: Q: How do North Crowley and Plano West matchup? Sayles: "North Crowley is like that mosquito at a picnic. They are always around the action, and you can't get rid of them. The team has a bunch of 6-2 and 6-3 tweeners who know the game of basketball. Add in star junior guard Kyan...

Amy Moody, a 5-10 guard from Summit, will play her college basketball for Oral Roberts. Moody was one of the best all-around players in the area. She averaged 10.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists a game this past season. Last year, Moody played on Summit's state championship team, and she also played volleyball for Summit.....

38th Denton Invitational Golf Tournament starts today

10:16 AM Fri, Mar 05, 2010 |  |
Mark Dent/Reporter    E-mail  |  News tips

As has been the case for much of the Denton Invitational's existence, the field for this weekend's tournament should be strong. The tournament, played at Robson Ranch today and Denton Country Club Saturday, features 12 5A schools and 16 4A schools. McKinney Boyd and Liberty Christian, not mention two Oklahoma schools, provide strong contenders for the 5A championship. Highland Park, defending state champ Richardson Pearce and the Frisco schools are among those competing at the...

Sayles: Marcus 'the most dangerous team' remaining in 5A playoffs

9:36 AM Fri, Mar 05, 2010 |  |
Kyle Whitfield/HS GameTime Editor    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

Take a look at Flower Mound Marcus' schedule this year. There are close games everywhere. In fact, you can count seven games decided by three points or less. In those games, Marcus is 6-1. The lone loss was to DeSoto, 44-42, on Jan. 5. "I think Marcus is the most dangerous team of the four remaining in 5A Region I," HS GameTime's Damon L. Sayles said in this week's basketball live chat. "If you look...

Timberview-Wakeland final should be fun

9:05 AM Fri, Mar 05, 2010 |  |
Matt Wixon/Reporter    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

Mansfield Timberview vs. Frisco Wakeland in Saturday's 4A final (3:30 p.m.). I always like to see an all-area final, and I hope it's a good one. I'll give Timberview the edge going in because it is so balanced with outside shooting, players who can get to the hoop and a dominating insid presence. Final note from Thursday night's Timberview game ... Timberview opponent Cibolo Steele got 31 points from guard Meighan Simmons, who has signed...

Wakeland's great playoff run reaches 4A final

11:06 PM Thu, Mar 04, 2010 |  |
Matt Wixon/Reporter    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

This is the lead to my column for tomorrow. The rest will post later tonight. AUSTIN - When the Frisco Wakeland girls arrived at the Frank Erwin Center, nobody climbed a ladder to measure the 10 feet from the floor to the hoop. But that's only because coach Darilyn Krempin didn't have a ladder to re-create the Hoosiers moment. What she did have was the speech from the movie about how, whether the game was...

Congrats to Wakeland for the victory. It will play in the 4A state final on Saturday. I'll have a wrapup later. -- Fourth quarter -- Wakeland 39, Del Valle 34, FINAL: After a Del Valle basket, Haley Texada made one of two free throws for Wakeland. Jackie Patterson made a clinching steal on Del Valle's next possession, and it led to a breakaway hoop for Haley Texada. Wakeland 36, Del Valle 32, 35 seconds: Jackie...
