Mavericks guard Jason Terry underwent surgery today to repair facial injuries sustained during Wednesday night's game vs. Minnesota. The surgery was performed by Dr. Neil Williams in Dallas. He is expected to make a full recovery and return to basketball activities in 10-14 days. Terry will not travel with the team to Chicago Saturday or Minnesota on Monday. Terry's left eye was nearly swollen shut when he left the Dallas locker room after Wednesday night's...

Sefko: Brendan Haywood could use a few minutes off

Todd Davis/Editor    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

SportsDay's Eddie Sefko answered readers' questions in a chat Friday. Do you think the Mavs need to be feeding Haywood in the post a little more? I did until the minutes started piling up on him. He's feeling the fatigue as much as anybody because there's nobody behind him to adequately spell him, although Eddie Najera gives it his best shot every time. The last couple games have seen Haywood taper off a bit. I'm...

Kidd back in lineup

Guard Jason Kidd was set to come back from a one-game sabbatical and return to the Dallas Mavericks' lineup on Friday night. Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle had Kidd stay away from the American Airlines Center for Wednesday's win against Minnesota. Carlisle said Kidd, who will turn 37 on March 23, needed an extended break from play. ``It was a great thing for me,'' Kidd said after the morning shootaround. ``It was very nice for coach...

Sefko: Mavericks like what they saw in Von Wafer

Todd Davis/Editor    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

SportsDay's Eddie Sefko answered readers' questions in a chat Friday. I think added production from Stevenson and Beaubois could fill in the gaps during Terry's absence, but why not give Von Wafer another 10-day? The Mavericks brought him in as much to look at him as a possible signee for next season as they did to help right now. They liked what they saw. I haven't seen Donnie Nelson yet here at the arena, but...

Sefko: Schedule can make Mavericks contenders in the West

2:03 PM Fri, Mar 05, 2010 |  |
Todd Davis/Editor    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

SportsDay's Eddie Sefko answered readers' questions in a chat Friday. When the Mavs get healthy, how good can this team be? They have to be considered a legitimate threat to the Lakers, don't they? The Lakers are so smug, I don't think they consider anybody to be legitimate threats. But the Mavericks are so much better now than they were a month ago, it's laughable. If they can run through the rest of the schedule...

Sefko: No apparent conflict between Jerry Stackhouse and Mavs

12:00 PM Fri, Mar 05, 2010 |  |
Todd Davis/Editor    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

SportsDay's Eddie Sefko answered readers' questions in his weekly Inside the Mavericks newsletter that arrives in subcribers' inboxes on Friday. Will we ever know the true Jerry Stackhouse story? He looks pretty good in Milwaukee. Was there a conflict last season? The only conflict was that Stackhouse couldn't run or jump because his foot was killing him. If Jerry and Rick Carlisle had problems, neither one of them let on, even in off-the-record moments. And...

Sefko: Caron Butler's knee problem appears to be solved

9:44 AM Fri, Mar 05, 2010 |  |
Todd Davis/Editor    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

SportsDay's Eddie Sefko answered readers' questions in his weekly Inside the Mavericks newsletter that arrives in subcribers' inboxes on Friday. What's the problem with Caron Butler's knee? As best I can tell, the "reaction-to-medication" reason given by the team is legit. It was never mentioned what the medication was, which leaves it open to conjecture. It may have been an injection, but it could have been something else, too. When a player wants privacy on...

Huge window for Jason Terry's return

6:56 PM Thu, Mar 04, 2010 |  |
Eddie Sefko/Reporter    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

OK, could it be seven to 10 weeks before Jason Terry is back in action? Based on previous orbit bone fractures, maybe. But it could also be seven to 10 days. That's the bottom line. Seven days to two months. That's the time frame we're looking at for Jason Terry. Back in the '90s, Hakeem Olajuwon missed 25 games with a fractured orbit. Ten years before that, Moses Malone missed the final eight games of...

Mavs should have gotten tougher, DeShawn says

2:40 PM Thu, Mar 04, 2010 |  |
Eddie Sefko/Reporter    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

DeShawn Stevenson is a little like Jerry Stackhouse use to be for the Mavericks. He doesn't like to take any stuff from anybody. That's why Stevenson said he was a little disappointed that the Mavericks didn't deliver any messages after Minnesota's Corey Brewer plowed elbow-first into Jason Terry's nose in the third quarter on Wednesday. "The only thing I'd like for us is to bring a little toughness,'' Stevenson said. "The situation that happened to...

Mavericks bracing for life without Jason Terry

Eddie Sefko/Reporter    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

Jason Terry is out for a while, scheduled to undergo facial surgery on Friday. The amazing thing is that Terry was able to play the entire fourth quarter with serious injuries going on inside his face. It appeared he was elbowed square on the nose by Corey Brewer Wednesday against Minnesota. Asked by ESPN.com how long he might be sidelined, Terry said via text message: "Not long." But there is no way to know the...

Mavericks' Jason Terry out, will have surgery on facial injuries

Mark Francescutti/Sports Editor    Bio |  E-mail  |  News tips

Mavericks guard Jason Terry is scheduled for surgery Friday to address facial injuries sustained in Wednesday's night's game vs. Minnesota. A timetable for his return will be released after the surgery is performed, the Mavericks said in a release. Dallas hosts Sacramento on Friday. Terry's left eye was nearly swollen shut after he took an inadvertent elbow to the face from the Timberwolves' Corey Brewer with a little over four minutes left in the third...
