Bridges & Blinking Lights frontman Jake Wilganowski says that the band's experience on local stages is what inspired its approach to making a sophomore record. The just-released 'Heroes, Guns & Snakes' was co-produced by Echo Lab engineer (and Centro-matic member) Matt Pence, and recorded in a more simple fashion than its predecessor.

Dallas' new listener-supported music station just met a major benchmark: The local-music-friendly KXT (91.7) hosted its first membership drive a couple of weeks ago, and received donations from more than 1,300 listeners, according to membership and marketing exec Deborah Johnson .

Fans who love Tegan and Sara's melody-rich songwriting and uniquely high-pitched vocals should find plenty of new favorites on the latest album 'Sainthood.' Since the sisters are scheduled to play the Palladium on Thursday, we caught up with Sara by phone from the road. She talked about the duo's early days and what makes its live show so much fun.

Catching up with the Rocket Summer
If you're looking for a musical pick-me-up, you can't go wrong with the melodic, bombastic power-pop of the Rocket Summer. The band's singer and songwriter is 27-year-old Grapevine native Bryce Avary, who also plays several instruments but specializes in drums, guitar and piano. Avary is busy rehearsing for a big show on Friday at the Granada, where he'll debut 'Of Men and Angels', his fourth studio album (which just reached No. 1 on iTunes).

Feb. 25: Nervous Curtains' new CD
Dallas' Nervous Curtains put out the debut record 'Out of Sync With Time' this week on Chicago label Latest Flame. There'll be a release party and show on Thursday at Good Records.
