Gladys O’Dell Jacobs, “Dell”

Gladys O’Dell Jacobs, “Dell”

Gladys O’Dell Jacobs, “Dell”, 84, of Little Elm, passed away Monday, March 1, 2010 in Denton. Dell was born January 31, 1926 in Red Springs, Texas to Earnest and Fannie Perryman. Dell met her husband, John Jacobs, while working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. They were married on January 30, 1946 in Rockville, Maryland. Dell was formerly employed by the Denton State School where she worked as a receptionist and switchboard operator. She was well respected and love by staff and residents. She retired in 1997.Dell was loved by family, friends, and neighbors. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be missed.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 4, 2010 from 10 – 11 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 3000 Old North Road, Denton. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 4 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the church. Graveside services and burial will be at Red Springs Cemetery in Lindale, Texas immediately following the conclusion of the memorial services in Denton. Please allow for transit time to the Red Springs Cemetery.

Dell is survived by her husband, John E. Jacobs; four children, Cheri Arledge of Krum, Jerry Jacobs of Austin, Bobby Jacobs of Aubrey, and Robyn Jacobs of Austin. Dell leaves behind 9 grandchildren: Kim Bilton, Corree Arledge, Chris Arledge, Kami Vargas, Sarah Green, Mackenzie Jacobs, Colby Jacobs, Callie Jacobs, and Peggy Jacobs; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the following:American Cancer Society and/or the Seaton Fund – Seaton Cancer Care Team, Patient Assistance Fund, 2600 East M.L.K., Austin, Texas 78702

 

 

Martha Belle Warren Boswell

Martha Belle Warren Boswell

Martha Belle Warren Boswell was sung to the Lord by her family on February 27, 2010.

Ms. Martha was born in Corn, TX on May 24, 1922. She married Don Boswell in Denton, TX on her birthday in 1947 and they lived there until they moved to Arlington, TX in 1955. Martha was known for her love of family and neighbors, and was always available with an attentive ear. She cared for children at Mother’s Day Out at First Christian Church- Arlington for 13 years. Martha was a member of University Baptist Church in Arlington, TX for over 50 years.

A visitation will be held on March 3, 2010 from 6-8 at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 2 pm at the Moore Memorial Garden.

Martha is survived by her children, Donald Ray Boswell and wife Sandra, daughter, Dianna Roseberry and husband Fred, and son, Dennis.Siblings, Mary Seitz, Tom Warren, Nanza Shepelwich, Elwanda Meeker, Garland Warren, and Marion Warren; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.O. and Dot Warren; her husband of 49 years, Don Boswell; siblings, Ray Warren, Eva Blanche, Lena Grissom, and Sue Belt.

Memorial donations may be made through the First Financial Bank of Alvarado in Mrs. Boswell’s name for The Gardens at Chisholm Trail in Keene, TX and Mission Hospice in Celburn, TX.

Services are under the direction of Denton Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

 

 

Chyrel Ann Traster

Chyrel Ann Traster, age 62 and a resident of Denton, Texas passed away March 1, 2010.Chyrel was born June 26, 1947 to Archie and Virginia Munson in Saginaw, Michigan.

She is survived by her husband Fred Traster; daughter, Jennifer Schaefer and husband LeRoy; 9 brothers and sisters, Cindy Beardslee, Eileen Delay, Byron Munson, April Benchley, Bob Munson, Dick Munson, Archie Munson, Dawn Sorensen, and Jeannie Steinhorst; 4 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Wyatt, Reagan, and Christopher Schaefer; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Jones Whitfield

Dorothy Jones Whitfield, 79 of Denton passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010 in Denton.She was born September 2, 1930 in Pampa TX to Martin Arnold Jones and Helen Marguarite Blymiller Jones.She married Orval Whitfield on June 4, 1952 in Pampa.

A memorial service will be Friday, March 5, 2010 in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors with Chaplain Jeremy Loy officiating.

She is survived by her husband, Orval Whitfield of Denton; daughter, Susan Whitfield of Berthoud CO; son, Martin Whitfield of Plano; sisters, Gladys Robertson of Austin, Nancy Davis of Denton, Janet Jones, Debbie Bryant of Bridgeport; brothers, Bobby Jones of Amarillo, Jimmy Jones of Sun City AZ, Rick Jones of Athens GA.She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters Mildred Jones and Virginia Morgan.

 

 

Daniel Dwayne Coward

Daniel Dwayne Coward, 63, of Denton, passed away Monday, March 1, 2010 at his residence. He was born on December 24, 1946 to Dan Monroe Coward and Myrna Cantrell Coward in Gatesville, TX. He graduated from Gatesville High School and attended the University of North Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Denton, was the founder of CBS Mechanical from 1971-1982, and was the president of BCI Mechanical from 1984 until present.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 4, from 5-7 p.m. at DeBerry Funeral Directors. A memorial service will be Friday, March 5, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Denton with Matt Gaston officiating. Burial will be at the Ater Cemetery in Gatesville, TX, Saturday, March 6 at 11 a.m.In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the First United Methodist Church of Denton; Ater Cemetery Association, C/O Carmon Alexander, 605 CR 195, Jonesboro, TX 76538; or to a charity of your choice.

Dan is survived by his daughter, Diana Roblyer and husband Brad; son, Greg Coward and wife Julie; former spouse of 41 years, Carolyn Coward; brother-in-laws, Johnny Schloeman of Granbury, and Phillip Gamble and wife Melanie of Fort Worth; three nephews, Mike Schloeman and wife Kim of Krum, John Travis Schloeman and wife Teresa of Granbury; and Corey Gamble and wife Ginger of Indianapolis, IN; niece, Andrea Gamble of Carrollton; three grandchildren, Lauren and Clayton Roblyer, and Kennedy Coward; and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Myrna Coward; and sister, Loleita Coward Schloeman.

 

 

Hubert Hathorn

Hubert Hathorn

Hubert Hathorn, 98, of Justin, passed away in his home under hospice care on Sunday February 28, 2010 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease and other diabetes related illnesses.

Hubert was born on October 25, 1911 in Collin County, TX to James and Alma Hathorn, but lived in Justin almost his entire life. Hubert graduated from Justin High School in 1931 and began a lifelong career as a farmer. He married Gladys Stanley on December 1, 1934 and they were happily married for over 70 years until her death in April 2005. Hubert and Gladys had one daughter, Fraya Louise Hathorn, who married Stanley Wiggins in 1958. Fraya preceded Hubert and Gladys in death in 1986.

Hubert joined Justin Baptist Church after marriage and served for many years in various volunteer roles as well as deacon for the church. Hubert received numerous commendations and awards including one of the Outstanding Farmers of America in 1970. Hubert was well known for his scientific views on farming and sought out by many fellow farmers and clients in the area during his career. Hubert was also a Mason and member of the Justin Lodge and devoted, founding member of the Justin Domino Association.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Lucas Funeral Home in Justin located at 305 West First Street, Justin, Texas 76247.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Justin. Reverend Al Draper will officiate assisted by Reverend Scott Brown.

Hubert is survived by his grandson, Brian Kevin Wiggins of Lewisville, TX and his beloved sister, Hazel Copp of Denton, TX, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews around the State of Texas.

Services are under the direction of Denton Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
