DentonRC.com became the online home of The Denton Record-Chronicle with a single Web staff member in 1996.

A year earlier, the newspaper had first tested the online waters in a brief partnership with a national Internet service provider. Anxious to expand its Web presence beyond a single network, the newspaper quickly opted to establish its own independent Web site.

"When we first got started, we were publishing about eight or 10 stories a day and that was it," said Larry McBride, Internet news editor for DentonRC.com. "Of course, we do a lot more now."

Though the Web site's staff has remained small, the operation has managed to tackle some big obstacles. Those challenges include the unexpected bankruptcy of its Web hosting partner in 2001 which, according to McBride, left the Web site incapable of receiving updates and robbed all Record-Chronicle employees of their e-mail accounts.

But in less than a week, the DentonRC.com staff was able to implement a new publishing system with Belo Interactive and resume normal operations.

After a handful of design changes over the years, DentonRC.com has evolved to become the premier source of online news and information for residents of Denton and the surrounding area.
