You can make a case for at least four candidates in the conference. Bill Self has led Kansas to a 13-1 conference record going into tonight's Sunflower State showdown with Kansas State. SportsDay's Dallas Cowboys beat writer David Moore answered questions in a chat on Tuesday. Have the Cowboys shown any interest in Emmanuel Sanders from SMU? He was extremely productive in college and had a very nice combine, running a 4.41. Only one receiver, Clemson's Jacoby Ford, had a faster time than Sanders at the combine. That kind of speed will get the interest of a lot of teams, not just the Cowboys. Right now, Sanders...

After losing to the No. 21 Baylor Bears, 86-68, Tuesday in Lubbock, Texas Tech men's basketball coach Pat Knight doubts his team will be playing in the NIT. "I don't know if we can now," Knight said. "Really, with six losses like this, you've got to win at Colorado and then a game at the Big 12 [Conference tournament] to even be considered. But it's not up to me, it's up to the selection committee....

Before departing for Cookeville, Tenn., Texas football coach Mack Brown spoke for a few minutes about his mother after practice Tuesday. Katherine Brown lost her battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday at age 82. She had been diagnosed a month ago. Brown had joined his two brothers in Cookeville on Sunday before returning to Austin. Freshman forward Ray Turner isn't having much of an issue getting acclimated to his new surroundings. After missing half the season because of eligibility issues, Turner has arrived and is already becoming a cult-hero to the Aggie students. His athleticism and energy off the bench have been a huge key to the Aggies' recent surge up the Big 12 standings. Turner's been a spark plug, and he may have another role after Friday. A&M...

With the No. 23 Aggies men's basketball team in a three-way tie with Baylor and Missouri for third place in the Big 12, the stretch run becomes all the more important in terms of seeding for the upcoming Big 12 tournament. The top four seeds in conference play earn first-round byes. If A&M closes the season with victories at home against Oklahoma State and at Oklahoma, it will earn a bye. If the three teams...

Defensive end/outside linebacker Sergio Kindle ran a faster 40-yard dash than Colt McCoy this past weekend at the NFL Scouting Combine. Kindle (6-3, 250) ran a 4.71 40-yard dash, which tied him for the fifth-fastest among defensive linemen. McCoy (6-1, 216), was the fifth-fastest quarterback and clocked in at 4.79 seconds. According to NFL.com, Kindle runs well but doesn't have the "elite speed or range for a stand up player." NFL.com analysts also mentioned that...

Last night at halftime of the Texas-Oklahoma basketball game, the media was able to catch up a little bit with Colt McCoy post-Combine. He was asked questions regarding his shoulder and where he stands on NFL teams' draft lists. McCoy said that even though he could just run the 40-yard dash - which he claimed he ran a 4.6 even though NFL.com has him down at 4.79 - it was a positive experience. "You meet...

Brad Townsend/Reporter    E-mail  |  News tips

My lasting memory of Katherine Brown, mother of Texas football coach Mack Brown, is interviewing her over lunch at the Cookeville, Tenn. Shoney's a couple of weeks before the Longhorns faced USC in the 2005 national title game. As soon as I started to ask about Mack, Katherine politely stressed that she was equally proud of her three sons and eight grandchildren. "I am so blessed that I could just cry thinking about it," she...

For forward Damion James, senior night was special in that it was his last home game, but all he really cared about was winning. After spraining his right foot in Texas A&M's 74-58 victory over Texas on Saturday, junior guard B.J. Holmes' status for the team's game Wednesday night against Oklahoma State is uncertain. "He's pretty sore," said coach Mark Turgeon. "He's a tough kid, but I think we'll move forward thinking we won't have him on Wednesday. If he does come back, that would be nice for us. ... We're definitely not going to rush him back." If...

The fans at the Frank Erwin Center who watched Texas play OU on senior night, made more noise for Colt McCoy when he was presented with the AT&T All-American Player of the Year trophy in the middle of the first half than they did when the Longhorns' three seniors were honored before tip off. The crowd got into it more late in Texas' victory over Oklahoma. Texas seniors Dexter Pittman, Justin Mason and Damion James...
