Lady Bird and her legacy
ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN
The Austin American-Statesman's Lady Bird's Legacy campaign is raising money to add more wildflowers to the hills, highways and neighborhoods throughout Central Texas. Every dollar donated is tax-deductible and will be used to buy seeds to plant along highway rights of way and in parks. A special Lady Bird Legacy seed packet will be given to fourth-grade students, who will learn about the importance of wildflowers and how to create their own gardens.
The campaign, which began Aug. 27, 2008, on what would have been President Lyndon B. Johnson's 100th birthday, will continue through 2012, when Lady Bird would have turned 100. Our goal is to join Lady Bird's dream of beautifying America. Want to buy the special Lady Bird's Legacy seed mix? A percentage will be donated to the Wildflower Center Seed Grant program to buy seeds for Texas schools. More about seed grants
