Man accused of killing ex-wife was barred from contacting her after prior assault

Marcus Deon JohnsonAmong Marcus Deon Johnson's (right) many prior criminal cases is a 2008 family violence arrest in which he was accused of attacking his wife at the time, Shawana Lane, during an argument in Dallas. According to the terms of his two-year probation sentence in that case, he was barred from contacting Lane, records show. The Dallas courts show no indication that he violated his probation -- until yesterday morning.

Johnson, 35, is now at the Dallas County Jail on a murder charge in Lane's death. Police say the 22-year-old mother of three was stabbed multiple times at her Red Bird apartment. Her young children were home at the time of her brutal killing. At least one of them, a 3-year-old child, witnessed the attack.

Below is the affidavit for arrest warrant and the terms of probation in Johnson's prior family violence case involving Lane. You can also view the affidavit for arrest warrant in the murder case here.

This is a sad story destined to repeat itself time and time again. To some extent, it repeats itself every day because probationers incessantly offended while on probation. Judges do little to nothing to keep you safe.

Dallas County has 35,000 people on probation. More than any other county in the entire state. Harris county has about 22,000, yet the population of that county is nearly double Dallas County.

DMN, you want a juicy investigative story? Look at the number of crimes committed by people while on probation. Look at the number of probationers who are kept on probation despite scores of violations.

To the Dallas County citizens: if you knew how much a probationer gets away with while on felony probation, you would be sick to your stomach.

How come the Dallas NewsPapers do not EVER put the Judges names from these cases? I do not understand that? Start doing that and we might see some accountability ..
