Pregnant woman found critically injured beside road in South Dallas

11:18 AM CST on Wednesday, March 3, 2010

By COLIN HOGAN / The Dallas Morning News

A pregnant woman lost her child today after she was found critically injured beside a road in South Dallas, police said.

Investigators aren't sure whether the 31-year-old Elena P. Reyna was beaten or struck by a vehicle, said Senior Cpl. Kevin Janse, a police spokesman.

Officers found her about 8:15 Tuesday morning in the 7800 block of Elam Road, near U.S. Highway 175.

Reyna, who was 5 ½ months pregnant, was taken to Baylor University Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition today. The fetus was declared dead this morning, Janse said.

A witness saw a man standing beside the victim, but he fled in a red Dodge pickup before officers arrived, police said.

Because of the woman’s condition, police detectives have not been able to ask her how she was injured.

Anyone with information can call Dallas police at 214-671-3584.
