Much of the talk was of Steve Ott's contract extension, and he has signed the deal and is under contract now for the next four years at an average of $2.95 million per season. As for tomorrow's game against the Kings, it sure sounds like coach Marc Crawford likes what Jeff Woywitka was doing before the Olympic Break and will probably play him again on Tuesday. Steve Ott just has confirmed this morning that he has agreed to the deal and expects to sign it today. Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk also has confirmed they have agreed, but that the contract is not signed yet. ``I usually don't like to confirm these things if it isn't signed, but yes, we expect to get it done today.'' Mark Fistric skipped practice because of soreness in his knee, but he's expected to be back on the ice Monday. Everyone else except the Olympians were out there. Jere Lehtinen and Finlands staged a strong comeback Saturday night and beat Slovakia 5-3 to win the bronze medal. Finland was down 3-1 after two periods, but former Stars winger Niklas Hagman scored on the power play and Olli Jokinen then added two goals. Steve Ott today said he believes the pressure of Wednesday's trade deadline could actually help push him and the Stars to get a contract extension signed. Ott is making $1.5 million this season and can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer. He is rumored to be seeking an extension for four to five years in excess of $3 million a season. Team USA ripped Finland, 6-1 in its semifinal Friday and Canada held off Slovakia, 3-2. Stars captain Brenden Morrow scored his second goal in as many games and had a direct hand in the game-winning goal by Ryan Getzlaf as he was setting up in front of the net when a puck bounced just past his screen and right to Getzlaf. They had a full complement out there (except for the Olympians) and went through a spirited workout for about an hour. Any team can claim him before 11 a.m. Saturday, and the team with the worst record that puts in a claim will get him. Auld is due about $250,000 for the remainder of the season, and the team that claims him would split that cost with the Stars. If Auld is not claimed, he will be assigned to the Texas Stars....
