SMU signed Jerry LeVias as the Southwest Conference's first black scholarship football player in 1965. As Black History Month ends this weekend, it's worth noting the school's involvement in that area goes back almost two decades earlier.

SMU football assistant diagnosed with cancer
SMU receivers coach Jeff Reinebold said Friday he has been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer. Reinebold said he was diagnosed about two weeks ago after having a physical.
