The 6-foot-3, 232-pound star can play inside linebacker or defensive end and according to Rivals.com, he can also run a 4.65 forty. Oral commitments are non-binding, and signing day is Feb. 2, 2011. Thompson is a two-time state champion and is one of the state's top defensive playmakers according to Rivals.com. As a junior, Thompson had...
Texas basketball coach Rick Barnes said this morning that freshman guard J'Covan Brown is "good to go" for tonight's Big Monday game with Oklahoma after sustaining a strained neck on Saturday against Texas A&M. The bad news: The Texas fall in the AP basketball poll is complete. The Longhorns dropped from the Top 25 today. They've lost seven of 12 games since claiming the top spot in January for the first time in school history...
Chattanooga Times Free Press columnist Mark Wiedmer would like to see the "blizzard of all blizzards" hits Texas about kickoff time of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision title game next season. You know, the game that was just awarded to Frisco after 13 years in Chattanooga, Tenn. Yeah, they're a little upset. Writes Wiedmer: Then again, losing the title game after 13 years feels like we were torpedoed, undercut, chop-blocked, or any other phrase you'd...
This weekend at the NFL Combine, Colt McCoy ran a 4.79 in the 40-yard dash. It was fifth-fastest time among the eight participating quarterbacks. But according to ESPN analyst Todd McShay, "his straight line speed was better than average for the position." Despite his lack of elite speed, McShay reported that McCoy was more agile than most starting NFL quarterbacks in the league today: "He has quick feet, can avoid the rush and is a...
Texas football coach Mack Brown is mourning a deep personal loss today. His mother, Katherine, lost her battle with pancreatic cancer Sunday at age 82. An accomplished athlete in her own right, she raised two sons who became Division I coaches. Texas has a remembrance of Katherine Brown on its official football website. Services will be held on Wednesday at Cookeville First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 565 East 10th Street, Cookeville, Tenn., 38501... February 28, 2010
The Big 12's official Twitter feed provided an interesting weekend nugget. If Kansas was to lose its final two games and finished in a tie with Kansas State for the Big 12 regular-season men's basketball title, the top seed in the conference tournament will be determined ... by a draw. According to the Big 12 -- which should know -- none of the tiebreaking criteria would apply. (Insert your favorite BCS standings one-liner here)....
Texas freshman guard J'Covan Brown continues to be listed as "day-to-day" after suffering a neck strain against Texas A&M. Brown was injured late in the game in a collision with A&M guard B.J. Holmes, who suffered a sprained foot. The Aggies don't play until Wednesday. The Longhorns don't have the luxury of a few more days. If Brown can't go Monday against Oklahoma, coach Rick Barnes is faced with a decision. He's already lost two... February 27, 2010
Texas freshman guard J'Covan Brown suffered a neck strain late in today's game with Texas A&M, the school announced in a medical update this evening. Basketball athletic trainer Eric Fry said Brown was evaluated and later released at a College Station hospital. "J'Covan will return to our athletic training room in the morning for another evaluation by our medical staff," Fry said. "His status now is listed as day-to-day." Brown was taken off the court...
With just under two minutes to play in College Station, and Texas A&M leading Texas Texas 72-58, Aggies' guard B.J. Holmes and Longhorns' guard J'Covan Brown collided and fell to the hardwood. The two were motionless on the floor for a few seconds before both schools' medical staffs came rushing. Silence immediately swept over the rowdy fans at Reed Arena once they realized that neither player was moving. Holmes was eventually helped off the court... February 26, 2010
Anyone who's run across SMU wide receivers coach Jeff Reinebold knows he's one of the most energetic and spirited people you'll ever meet. They also know Reinebold loves to surf. It was while surfing in Hawaii during the Mustangs' bowl trip last December that Reinebold said he "rubbed a little thing raw" on his stomach, and the irritation never healed. Reinebold said he gets a yearly physical in February when recruiting season is over, and...
The NCAA chose Frisco, Texas over Chattanooga, Tenn. to host college football's title game for the FCS, or the second tier of college football in the U.S. Here's the announcement from the NCAA: INDIANAPOLIS - Frisco, Texas, has been selected as the new host site for the NCAA Division I Football Championship game. Frisco emerged from a pool of several cities that submitted bids to serve as the host site for the championship game for...
With spring practices starting Friday, Mack Brown and the Texas coaching staff have a myriad of adjustments to make to their football team. Besides the obvious decisions that affect the positions that have lost its' starters, Brown wants to spark up his offense a little more. "I want to have more fun with the offense," Brown said. One way Brown believes he can achieve this desire is by having successful trick plays up his sleeve....
No. 21 Texas has lost its two starting point guards due to injury this season in Varez Ward and Dogus Balbay. But even though Ward and Balbay cannot physically contribute on the court, their spirit remains strong within the Longhorns who can. Forward Gary Johnson recently tweeted that, "In honor of Dogus Balbay, I'll be wearing No. 4 for the remainder of the season." Johnson has worn No. 1 since his freshman year. When Ward...
Before their men's basketball seasons, Kentucky and Texas showed the greatest amount of depth and promise among the national contenders. The Wildcats took advantage of their talent and have a 27-1 record, occupying the No. 2 spot in the polls. The Longhorns have lost six of their last 11 games and are 22-6. ESPN's Pat Forde explained earlier this week that the reason the two programs have been "speeding in opposite directions" is the differences...
Texas' Mack Brown, as might be expected, is no fan of the new NCAA rule that restricts coaches-in-waiting. Brown said that edict will adversely affect the way defensive coordinator Will Muschamp can do his job and recruit. "I think, personally, that it is a very, very poor rule," Brown said. "First of all, I do not think that they should allow coaches to make decisions and change the rule that changes the abilities of a... |
