SURPRISE, Ariz. - In the third inning, Julio Borbon demonstrated what kind of weapon he can be, by bunting a ball up the third base line for a one-out single. He stole second despite a pitchout when Taylor Teagarden's throw was high, then also stole third. Borbon has said he expects to steal at least 50 bases this season.
SURPRISE, Ariz. - You can look at Scott Feldman's inning of work two different ways. For the optimist, it took him just 10 pitches to retire three batters. For the pessimist, the four batters he faced in those 10 pitches comprised the heart of the Rangers order: Vladimir Guerrero (first pitch ground ball), Ian Kinsler (second pitch fly out), Nelson Cruz (singled after getting behind 0-and-2) and Chris Davis (first pitch ground ball)....
SURPRISE, Ariz. - It took C.J. Wilson 26 pitches to record three outs in his first inning of work as a starter Monday. Wilson recorded the first two outs on nine pitches, but then walked left-handed hitting David Murphy and Justin Smoak consecutively. He did end the inning by getting Taylor Teagarden to ground out to shortstop on a full-count breaking pitch. Wilson seemed to have trouble commanding his breaking ball - not unexpected at...
In our semi-regular video series in which we try to get to know some of the Rangers, we try to help reliever Darren O'Day navigate a menu in a Mexican restaurant.
SURPRISE, Ariz. - Outfielder Josh Hamilton, who has been dealing with a sore shoulder for the last five days, was scratched from the Rangers' first intrasquad game of the spring Monday.
SURPRISE, Ariz. - It became clear that Khalil Greene wouldn't be part of the Rangers plans before we ever posted last week's first mock roster, so we didn't have to account for that in Version Two. But is it possible for their to be movement without any further injuries and in the absence of any exhibition games? Hey, this is the mock roster world. Anything is possible.
Mr. Baseball of the photo staff hit the ground in AZ Saturday afternoon and will be filing lots of images from the Rangers spring training camp the next two weeks. We'll keep the slideshows coming if the weather will ever cooperate. click here for more February 28, 2010
SURPRISE, Ariz. - Dear Arizona: Enough with the rain....
The print product of the blog contained a column by some guy I know on the Rangers search for more team leadership. Meanwhile, our pals over at the Star-Telegram wrote about Scott Feldman's quest to be more than a one-year wonder.
SURPRISE, Ariz. - On September 1 last season, running out a routine ground ball, Michael Young suffered a strained left hamstring. It was significant not just because it took Young out of the Rangers' lineup as they tried to keep pace in the AL West. It was significant because it was the first injury that required him to miss considerable time. February 27, 2010
SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Rangers began an earnest examination of their internal bench candidates Saturday. Joaquin Arias, who hopes to win a spot as the utility infielder, did some early work with the infield instructors. Max Ramirez took the field for some one-on-one tutorial at first base. A catcher, he's trying to add first to his resume and become the right-handed bench power bat.
SURPRISE, Ariz. - LHP Derek Holland will return to the mound Saturday after missing a pair of live batting practice sessions due to a mild sprain of his right knee. Holland won't face hitters, but is expected to throw a regular bullpen session. February 26, 2010
The MLB Network will be showing a few Rangers spring training games as part of their national package, but they won't be appearing in the area. Expect these to be blacked out on MLB Network, but available locally on either Fox Sports Southwest or KTXA (Channel 21) in North Texas. For details, you must turn the page.
SURPRISE, Ariz. - RHP Warner Madrigal cut short his throwing session Friday with tightness in his right forearm area. The Rangers believe the problem is muscular rather than structural. He will be re-evaluated on Saturday. Madrigal pitched in 12 games in the Dominican Winter League, but stopped in December.
I'm not kidding, although he did need a little help getting started. Why does he do this? Well, you will have to click to find out. And, in case you aren't familiar with the wonder of the "Wonder Pets" here's the more professionally done version of the song. |
Next Monday will be March 8, and he wil
