Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Kidd recently spoke to The Ben & Skin Show on ESPN Radio. Some highlights: On the funniest dude on the team: "Oh, there's no doubt -- Dirk Nowitzki . . . People don't really get to see Dirk but on the basketball court; but he's the biggest clown. He has a great personality. You got Dirk and Matt Carroll, those two are fighting for that No. 1 spot." On the worst...
Lost, somewhat, amid Dirk Nowitzki's great fourth quarter and Darren Collison's eye-popping game, was the defensive play of the night turned in by Caron Butler. After Nowitzki put the Mavericks up 103-97 with a jumper in the lane, Butler poked the ball free from Collison for a steal with 51.9 seconds left. Butler missed the coast-to-coast layup, but Brendan Haywood was there for the follow-up dunk. The steal was part of a scouting report Butler...
Our friends at Fox Sports Southwest offer these video highlights of last night's Mavs-Hornets game for your viewing pleasure....
It looked like it was going to be an easy night for the Mavericks with an 83-58 lead midway through the third quarter, then everything sort of stopped for the Mavericks. Darren Collison got hot. So did Marcus Thornton. The Mavs started to turn the ball over, take quick shots and lost the rhythm they had in the first half. The other night New Orleans came back from an 18-point deficit to beat Orlando at...
In about 18 hours, the Mavs will bring their seven-game winning streak to Charlotte to play the Bobcats. They are not expected to land in North Carolina until 3:45 a.m. and coach Rick Carlisle called it one of the "great challenges of the season." Instead of a breakfast meeting, the Mavericks will have a team meal in the afternoon and get on the bus for the arena. "Hey, you can look at it and whine...
Check out photos from the Mavs' 108-100 win over the New Orleans Hornets.... February 28, 2010
Sunday was the first game Caron Butler played without his now-famous straw chewing. He had his second-best scoring night since the trade (19 points) and had a hot start with eight points in the first quarter on four-of-five shooting. "Yeah, but I still need my straws," Butler said. And here's the agreement Butler and the league came to: he can chew the straws on the bench but he has to throw them away when he...
End of game, Mavericks 108-100 The Mavs liked Caron Butler's toughness when they made the trade with Washington. Translation: they liked his defense. He just came up with a big steal on Daren Collison with the Mavs up six. He missed the coast-to-coast-layup but his Wizards teammate, Brendan Haywood was there for the follow up dunk. And it sure looked like it could have been basket interference. That pretty much put the game away. The...
The Mavericks have 34 points in the paint with 2:37 left in the first half. That's just three shy of their average -- per game. It shouldn't be that surprising. New Orleans gave up 70 points in the paint last week to Milwaukee. --Eddie Sefko...
At one point, the rookie Darren Collison had 16 points and the rest of the Hornets had 17. He's going to give this franchise a real interesting set of options when he figures things out completely. With him and Chris Paul, the Hornets can be a broker for somebody else's point guard if they decide they don't want to keep (pay) both of them. --Eddie Sefko...
They are shooting 63.3 percent and have blown open this game, up 47-26 with nine minutes left in the half. They have outscored the Hornets 12-2 in the second quarter. --Eddie Sefko...
The Mavericks have six baskets in the first six minutes and have assists on five of them. None are by Jason Kidd. In fact, they're all from the forward spots: three by Dirk Nowitzki and two by Shawn Marion. Mavericks are trailing 16-14. --Eddie Sefko...
Halftime, Mavericks 69, Hornets 50 The Mavericks could not have played better in the first half. New Orleans absolutely had something to do with it. The Hornets played only a little more defense than you and I did. And we haven't taken the warmups off yet. The Mavs scored 69 points. They were slightly better on Dec. 2 at New Jersey when they put up 77 points on the lowly Nets in the first half....
Caron Butler is playing tonight and looks like he'll be back in the starting lineup. He's taking part in the pre-game warmups after missing the last two games with a "reaction to medication." Butler said in the morning shootaround he expected to return after a two-game absence. He made a brief appearance in the locker room before the game and had a sleeve on his left knee. Not sure if he had that sleeve on...
Instead of filing separate posts, we'll continue to update just one thread for each half and see how that works. Give us some feedback on if you like that better than the multi-post way. Thanks.... |
