What We Do
The State Securities Board is responsible for regulating the securities industry in Texas. We register securities offered or sold in Texas and oversee the firms and individuals selling securities or providing investment advice to Texans. Through our Investor Education initiative, we help our fellow Texans become informed investors.

- State of Texas v. National Life Settlements, LLC, et al.
On June 29, 2009, Travis County state district Judge Stephen Yelenosky approved an order that starts the claims process for investors in National Life Settlements LLC. The company and its principals have been accused in a civil petition of committing securities fraud in connection with the sale of notes purportedly secured by life settlement policies.

The motion to approve the claims process -- by Janet Mortenson, the court-appointed receiver for National Life Settlement -- can be found here. Judge Yelenosky's ruling is an important step in the process of determining the full extent of the company's assets and how much money can be returned to investors.
On February 26, 2009, Ms. Mortenson was appointed a Permanent Receiver over National Life Settlements. Ms. Mortenson has set up a Web site providing details on the receivership at www.nlsreceivership.com
