SURPRISE, Ariz. - There have been hundreds of thousands of names who have appeared in Major League games, but really the number of different types of players is far less. Scouts will often compare one player to another they've seen in the past to give an evaluation of a player's future ceiling. We all do the same. So that's why I set about trying to find one for Elvis Andrus.
SURPRISE, Ariz. - After consulting with the agents for Khalil Greene, Major League Baseball and the Players' Association, the Rangers have decided to void the contract of the infielder currently dealing with a recurrence of Social Anxiety Disorder.
Check out the latest videos from Evan Grant and Fox Sports Southwest Interview with Darren O'Day Latest update on Julio Borbon and other Rangers news...
SURPRISE, Ariz. - Outfielder Josh Hamilton, who fell on his left shoulder during a pop-up drill on Wednesday, will miss at least one more day of on-field activities due to the bruise and subsequent muscle spasm he suffered.
SURPRISE, Ariz. - For the first week of camp, the pitchers and catchers have the exclusive run of the place. That means a lot of guys get hauled out for extra work. The other morning, the guy doing the extra work was closer Frank Francisco. What was odd about this arrangement was that it was Francisco who asked for the extra sweat session with manager Ron Washington.
SURPRISE, Ariz. - So, what do you do when you have a video camera and some time to kill at spring training? You start shooting videos of Rangers pitchers. Over the last couple of days, during "live batting practice," we gathered some video of Omar Beltre, Kasey Kiker and Tanner Scheppers. All three were in our recent Top 25 Rangers prospects. But here, thanks to the goodness of YouTube, we can bring them to life. February 24, 2010
SURPRISE, Ariz. - Rangers prospect RHP Omar Poveda has suffered a right elbow sprain and will likely require Tommy John surgery. He will, however, see Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles to receive a second opinion.
The Rangers have signed infielder Wes Bankston to a minor league contract. Born in Dallas, Bankston starred at Plano East High School in both baseball and football. He was committed to the University of Texas before he was selected in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2002 June draft by Tampa Bay....
SURPRISE, Ariz. - Outfielder Josh Hamilton, who was limited to 89 games last season by a variety of injuries, landed on his left shoulder during a pop-up drill Wednesday morning during the Rangers' first full-squad workout of the spring. He left the workout early for treatment, but no MRI or further testing is expected. He will be re-evaluated on Thursday.
SURPRISE, Ariz. - The Rangers have added Marcus Lemon to the spring training roster to replace INF Khalil Greene. Lemon, 21, doesn't have much of a chance to win a spot on the roster, but the Rangers needed an extra infield body, particularly for early games. Lemon hit .262 at Double-A Frisco last year. He was in early minor league camp and had been getting extra work on ground balls with manager Ron Washington.
This headline filled with initials is no LOL moment. This is big news in the fight to get the sport cleaned up. According to this report in the New York Times, MLB has found a testing procedure for Human Growth Hormone and plans to introduce it very shortly.
SURPRISE, Ariz. - The print version of the blog this morning contains a column on the remaking of RHP Brandon McCarthy, who is trying to hold on to a roster spot against three lefties and prodigy Neftali Feliz. He understands it's an uphill battle and he's made some bold changes to try and hold his job. After the jump, we've got video of the delivery. February 23, 2010
Evan Grant chatted about the Rangers on Tuesday. Here are some highlights ... On whether outfielder Nelson Cruz can be a 30-30 player: The Rangers think he's capable. He shut down his running game for the last two months of the season. He had only four steals in six attemps from July 26 until the end of the season. He had some ankle problems that contributed to slowing down the running game, but he still...
Evan Grant chatted about the Rangers on Tuesday. Here are some highlights ... On whether the Rangers can win the AL West: What is this one of those GEICO commercials? Can GEICO save you money? Does a bear sleep in the woods? No, it's not crazy. This team has talent. It's all a matter of everything falling into place. On how much time Colby Lewis has to adjust to pitching in the U.S. again: I...
Evan Grant chatted about the Rangers on Tuesday. Here are some highlights ... On whether the Rangers will ever develop a rivalry as intense as Yankees vs. Red Sox: Nope. New York and Boston have a rivalry that transcends baseball anyway. They are rivals in every sport. And it's been that way for a long time. Nothing like it really in pro sports. But it would be nice to see something of a rivalry with... |
