The Dallas Morning News began publication on October 1, 1885. It is published by the oldest business institution in Texas, Belo, which has chronicled Texas history for more than 160 years. The Dallas Morning News traces its origin The Daily News in Galveston, which was born on April 11, 1842 , in a one-room unpainted shack, three years before the Republic of Texas was admitted to Union. The Dallas Morning News began with a circulation of 5,000 and within a year, special leased trains were carrying papers to other North Texas cities on the morning of publication. G.B. Dealey served as publisher of The Dallas Morning News until 1940, when he was succeeded by his son, E. M. Dealey. James M. Moroney III, a great-grandson of G.B. Dealey, was named publisher in 2001. The Dallas Morning News currently offers a wide range of print and online products that includeDallasnews.com, Al Dia, Quick, Neighborsgo.com, F!D Luxe, and Looks to name a few.
