Zac Posen's new affordable Z Spoke line hits Saks
Zac Posen's Z Spoke collection hits Saks March 1. |
Here's my Zac Posen story: I was standing outside Neiman Marcus in my only designer piece at the time, a black ruffle Ralph Lauren cocktail dress. It was regularly $900, and I got it for $300 at Tootsies. Anyway, Zac looks me up and down. His curly black locks glistening in the moonlight. And he said, with enthusiasm, "You look fabulous."

That's when I fell in love with Zac Posen. So I'm happy to report his more affordable Z Spoke line comes to Saks Fifth Avenue next week. Z Spoke by Zac Posen is a SFA exclusive. The line ranges from a $98 tee to a $575 parka dress. Still pretty pricey. So if you're way more thrifty, the former boy-wonder debuts a line at Target in April.

Nordstrom Rack opens first Houston store
I actually plan on arriving early Thursday to the new Nordstrom Rack, which is located in the Centre at Post Oak next door to Marshall's. For shoppers, the store sounds like a dream. Imagine sorting through 25,000 pairs of shoes, more than 3,700 pairs of premium jeans and about 800 handbags. I get all giddy thinking about it.
"It's the ultimate experience in retail therapy," said Nicque Montgomery, recalling her experiences at Nordstrom Rack in Los Angeles, where, she said, she found a pair of Via Spiga sandals, regularly priced at $325, for $25 and a $950 Calvin Klein dress for just $80. "To be able to find high-end designer pieces for a steal or near steal is such a huge rush."
Nordstrom Rack at The Centre at Post Oak opens 9 a.m. Thursday. Starting at 7 a.m., you can drop off an entry for a chance to win a Race Through the Rack, a 90-second, $2,000 shopping spree in the new store. The drawing will be held at 8:45 a.m. Also, the first 1,000 customers will receive a Nordstrom Rack tote bag as their gift with purchase (while supplies last).

Fashion 101 for Olympic skaters because they need it
I got a call from a producer with NPR's All Things Considered to talk about the absolutely, outrageous costumes worn by male figure skaters in the Olympics in Vancouver. If you've missed the news, the men have been making headlines more for their bad fashion choices than their triple or quad jumps. NPR decided to use another expert for the piece.
I don't think I was funny enough. Nevertheless, as a former competitive ice skater and coach, I have come up with some fashion rules for the ice:

Vogue names top fashion bloggers, and ShopGirl isn't one. Yet.
I was taking a lunch break during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York last week and happened to share a table with style blogger, BryanBoy. The Philippine-based blogger was little self-assured, but rightfully so. He's one of nine young fashion bloggers featured in Vogue magazine's Power of Fashion Issue this March. (Ironically, Vogue editor Anna Wintour once quipped she hated the word "blog" and allegedly called it garish, according to the New York Post.)
Are bloggers taking over the fashion world? It appears so. I saw BryanBoy with a front-row or near-front row seat at the some the most hard-to-get-in fashion shows. He even introduced himself to Marie Claire editor and Project Runway judge Nina Garcia after Oscar de la Renta's show, and she KNEW who he was.
