A man was arrested after a tense standoff with police at home in south Houston early this morning.

The standoff began about 6 a.m. at a residence in the 3000 block of Groton, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said that patrol officers convinced the man to surrender about an hour later after he had barricaded himself in the home. No injuries were reported.

The man, whose name has not been released, apparently had fired one shot at a family member and then holed up in the house alone when police arrived. The relative was not injured.

He refused to leave the home, but later agreed to come outside. He was taken into custody without incident.

No other information, such as what charges may be filed against the man or what led to the shooting, was immediately available.
