A suspect who held up Woodforest Bank in December in west Pearland has been linked to at least six other Houston area bank robberies, a Pearland police spokesman said.

A Pearland Junior High South team won as grand champions in this year's Pearland school district Quiz Bowl. The Feb. 19 event drew an enthusiastic audience of about 240 to watch 156 middle school and junior high school students answer questions about general trivia and France, this year’s topic.

As the Pearland Police Department phases in new software to handle residential and commercial alarms, City Council is adjusting the city's false alarm billing.

Council on Monday unanimously passed the first reading of an ordinance allowing residents and business owners to report two false alarms during the year before they are hit with a false alarm fine.

Part of Brazoria County's heritage is that of slaves and freedmen who coped with overwhelming obstacles in the antebellum, Civil War and Reconstruction periods. But because those residents didn't leave written accounts, much of that story has been a mystery, which University of Houston anthropologist Kenneth Brown has worked for years to unravel. Brown will lead a tour of the plantation's cabin sites on Saturday, with the bus leaving from St. James Church, 3129 Southmore, Houston, at 9 a.m.
