A man was arrested after a tense standoff with police at home in south Houston early this morning. The standoff began about 6 a.m. at a residence in the 3000 block of Groton.

HPD officer shoots man during traffic stop

A police officer shot and wounded a man during a routine traffic stop late Wednesday night in southeast Houston. The shooting occurred in the 5200 block of Pederson about 11 p.m., according to the Houston Police Department.

2 escape house fire in southeast Houston

Boys basketball playoffs: Yates, Jones advance

Yates rolled over Sterling 126-61 to kickoff its playoff campaign and stretch its streak of 100-point games to 10. Meanwhile, Jones won a nail-biter against Waltrip, 54-52.

Six errors cited in deaths of 2 firefighters

According to a story by Chronicle reporter James Pinkerton, an investigation by the State fire marshal's office cited six errors that may have contributed to the death of two firefighters fighting a blaze in east Houston last Easter.

Photos: New accessible playground opens

A new playground, accessible by children and adults with and without disabilities, was opened over the weekend at Eastwood Park. The new playground was funded by joint venture between CVS Caremark, Houston Parks and Recreation, and Boundless Playground.

Security concern shuts down Hobby for an hour
