If you have a game that was scheduled for today but has been postponed because of the weather, please post a comment on this blog post letting us know when it is rescheduled for....
One Mesquite team that is still playing tonight is the Mesquite Horn girls basketball team. I just talked to Skyline coach Cassandra McCurdy, and she said that as of right now, their Class 5A Region II quarterfinal playoff game against Mesquite Horn is still on as scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at Garland Lakeview. It should be one of the best games of the week, with Skyline ranked No. 2 in the state and Horn...
The boys and girls basketball playoff games involving some of the Mesquite ISD schools have been rescheduled for Wednesday. The girls Class 4A Region II quarterfinal game between Mesquite Poteet and Waco Midway has moved to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ennis High School. In the boys Class 5A Region II bracket, Mesquite vs. Killeen Ellison has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Waco High School, and Mesquite Horn vs. Bryan moved to 8:30 p.m....
Rockwall has Peyton Adamson and Alyssa Lang. Frisco Wakeland has Haley Texada, Jackie Patterson and a slew others. At stake for Rockwall: keeping Adamson's final season alive. It has a great opportunity to reach the semifinals in Austin. At stake for Wakeland: extending a best season. Wakeland beat Frisco earlier and finished second in district. This is an opportunity to show even more that Wakeland has arrived....
Cedar Hill plays against Plano West tonight in the third round of the playoffs. But let's revisit last week for a second, a 66-45 victory against Southlake Carroll that wouldn't have been nearly as comfy if not for three buzzer beaters. In the first quarter, as time ran out, Diara Moore made a falling-down three-pointer in the corner. This gave the Longhorns an 18-12 lead. In the second quarter, again, as time ran out, Candice...
It's a big week for the Fort Worth Nolan boys and girls basketball teams, which both play in the TAPPS Class 5A semifinals on Friday. It's the biggest weekend for Nolan basketball in a long time, reports Nolan girls basketball coach Jason Wallen, because it's been at least 20 years since the boys and girls have made the state semis in the same year. The girls play Houston St. Agnes at 3:30 p.m. Friday and...
The Class 4A Region I quarterfinal game between Mansfield Timberview and Stephenville has been moved to Wednesday due to potential bad weather Tuesday night. The game will still be at Aledo High School and will start at either 6 p.m. (if it is part of a double-header) or 6:30 p.m....
The Duncanville and Irving MacArthur girls play tonight at 6 p.m. at Arlington Lamar for a spot in the 5A Region I tournmanent this weekend. So what does Duncanville have to do to get past the district rival that handed it two of its three losses this season? Well, Duncanville (33-3) will have to do a lot because MacArthur (35-1) is an excellent team. But here's one big thing: The Panthers will have to play...
I came across an interesting story from the San Jose Mercury News about basketball player Derek Norris: Statistics -- seven points, two rebounds and one assist this season -- fail to tell the story of Gunderson junior Derek Norris. Those numbers can't measure the heart of the 17-year-old basketball player, who had his right leg amputated above the knee at age 6.Regardless of ability, it shows just how much a sport can mean to a... The Indians have given the area one of the best stories of the playoffs so far. They defeated top-seed West Mesquite and then stomped Marshall. It's a beautiful ride, one set in motion by players like Brittanya Sterns,* Shaquille Davis and Chanel Miller. *Sterns had Christian Laettner, circa 1992, numbers in her two games last week, shooting 19-of-20 for the field.** **And really, this whole Waxahachie team seems comparable with NCAA Tournament greats. Last Tuesday,...
We'll start with what we know. The best district in girls basketball is District 7-5A. It has Cedar Hill, Irving MacArthur and Duncanville, you know, three of the top five teams in the state. It has Odyssey Sims, Alexis Jones and Diara Moore, you know, three of the top players in the state. This district, though, has an equally potent peer on the private side. TAPPS 1-5A can boast of equal basketball excellence. Take a...
I was speaking with a colleague of mine (I'll leave him anonymous) during the Dallas ISD Postseason Classic at Ellis Davis Field House, and he said something that caught my attention. "You know, no team in the area has a shot," he said with confidence and a little arrogance. "Jack Yates High School is going to win state in 4A -- easily." Pretty strong words from a guy who actually grew up in Dallas. His...
Mesquite Poteet football coach Charles Hesse has been reassigned to another position within the Mesquite ISD and the search for the school's next head coach is underway, Mesquite ISD athletic director Steve Bragg said Monday. Poteet finished 0-10 in 2009 and was 1-19 the last two seasons under Hesse. Bragg said Hesse was reassigned to another position at the end of January. Hesse had been Poteet's head coach since 2003 and went 27-44 in seven...
Family dinners are about to become more interesting in one local household. Over the weekend, Euless Trinity's Chris Barnett, a 6-6, 245-pound tight end, committed to Oklahoma. It was an interesting choice, considering that Barnett's brother, Eryon, was a freshman defensive back at Texas this past season. Barnett, who transferred to Trinity in January, made 14 receptions for 129 yards and two touchdowns while playing last season at A. Maceo Smith, where his father, Elzie,...
The application deadline to apply for the Arlington Lamar football coaching position is Tuesday. The job opening will officially close Tuesday, Arlington ISD athletic director I.C. Little said Monday. Little said that Lamar principal Jeff Provence and the Lamar football coach search committee will primarily handle the hiring of the new coach who will replace legendary Eddy Peach, who recently resigned. Peach's last day on the job is Friday, Little said. Little said he'll go... |
