Description:

What the heck is going on at the Shutter Island Asylum? Am I crazy or is the government trying to cover up something? Does God really love violence and if so, did he/she buy a ticket to see this ...

I watched it at http://leafpen.com/vid9233 and it was pretty good quality. but I had to do a survey first. after that it worked though, so whatever.

Well, I do agree with you in that there isn't really a middle ground here. Either you get completely sucked into the action and are subjected to that "trapped" feeling, thereby making the movie pretty brilliant, or you don't, in which case it sucked. Interesting to see the point of view of someone that didn't.

When the guy in the theater yelled out the movie sucked at the end, he got a nervous laugh from others. I love it when you get immediate, honest opinions yelled out in the dark, regardless of whether you agree or not. That's why millions of people go to the movies, for that individual experience to share and compare.

Just got out of the movie. To heck with the Us Marshalls, I feel like it was me that was trapped on Shutter Island for the last 2 hours ! Very heavy handed in its use of imagery, this movie is WORK to watch. Could have been fascinating in the hands of a more deft and self restrained director, but those talents are not expressed here. De Caprio seems ill at ease in the roll and the other actors p

trapped is exactly what the film makers wanted you to feel, all from the point of view of the main character. I think Scorsese wanted to make several movies here, all rolled together and playing off against each other.

Yes, there are many clues about Teddy and his role in the story, as I pointed out he starts off the movie "sick" and uncomfortable around water. This has a big impact on his past experiences. Thanks.

&& at the end of the movie when the men were telling "teddy" that he was really "Andrew" -- the ciggarettes were the problem! so if you think about it,, "teddy" IS/WAS actually "Andrew".

kelsikelsi Scribbled:

...one of "chucks" ciggarettes. well if you move on to the middle of the movie when "teddy" found the woman in the cave and she asked him if he had smoked anybody elses ciggarettes and he said yes.

everybody is so confused about this whole situation on "shutter island" the movie. . people dont understand the ending or basically the whole concept. well if you remember in the beggining of the movie when "tedd" and his new partner "chuck" were on the boat, "chuck" offered "teddy" a ciggarette. then "teddy" said , "no thanks i have my own" but then couldnt find them. so "teddy" ended up taking

I too found this one tough but not because I am not open to alternative film approach and plot. I actually prefer my films without clear and easy answers, but this just didn't hold together.

MarketBOB Replied:

Me too. I like something different and with a few twists, but it has to make a logical sense to me without feeling manipulated by false realities. It was sold as a thriller/mystery set in a reality audiences buy into. Still, lots to like in the acting and images and I applaud the film for taking the alternative route.

This is an interesting idea: to scale the movies to the market which influences them. The action of the movie was held back, it was slow. And I didn't know that Shutter Island was an asylum. I probably would have picked up the criminal part.

Yes, thanks for the comment. I think emotion plays a large part in all our decisions, no matter how rational we think we are, so if a lot of people pick a movie like this on the weekend, it does affect their mood and the decisions they make, how they react to news. I know the audience I was with had a definite reaction to the ending and they'll take those feelings home with them.
